a proper duratec engine is a mazda(based) engine,
but a lot of late zetec were badged as duratecs,
if its a timing belt its a zetec if its a chain its a duratec,
exhaust at front with zetec(except zetec se), at the rear on duratec,
loads of other things as well,
2 completely differant engines, dont share any components

they are both zetecs focus rs/st170, renamed by ford

marketing reasons as they didn't want there flagships models goin on sale with "old" engines

as the mk3 mondeo had been on sale for a few years with the new duratec engine

anyway the duratec engine is chain driven and completely different to a zetec

You were lucky then, we ended up replacing the engine my mums 2.0 mondy, the metal bar dropped inside the head, wrecked the inlet valve, which dropped into the cylinder, smashed the piston face, the exhaust valve and fucked up the bore !

That was at the time when the engines were still 900 quid too, so we bought a low mileage engine and spent another 700'ish quid on the redesigned manifold and all the shit to go with it.

My 2003 Mondy did the same thing sucking the swirl flap and spindle in wrecking the head and pistion/cylinder 1 and Ford denied any knowledge of any problems when I asked about it. Anyway I currently have an other engine waiting to go in.

You didnt need to buy the manifold just buy the new flaps cost about 6 quid in total.
When I bought them the lad behind the counter punched in my reg and said that they wouldnt fit my manifold and that I needed to spend £700 on the new manifold. I bought them anyway and they were a direct replacement the robbing bastards just wanted the £700 out of me for nothing.
