I am sincerely sorry about what happened to your dad and have no intention of falling out with you or anyone else about some tosser wanting to defraud (my view and I'm entitled to it) but why should you defend the kind of guy who made your father's banker decide the risk was too great to continue investing in his business? To my mind he's the one you should be venting at, not the finance companies.
I lost my job in the same crash in the 80's and had to move away to find another so I have some limited experience of what you are talking about.
Since then I've been made redundant another two times as the companies I worked for decides to pack it in and make money easier than chasing ever-lower returns in the lending market.
Personally, I pay my credit card bill each month so don't pay interest. I've learned to only spend what I can afford to repay, but enjoy doing it for interest free as long as possible - it all helps get my mortgage down.
Irresponsible lending can cause misery, but at the end of the day too many people lie about their other commitments to get money they can't hope to repay, but everyone's "right" to privacy means that lenders often don't know what else the punter has lurking in the background and loan what seems to be sensible amounts, only to be told later "I can't pay because I owe another £20k to X Y and Z".

couldnt we just stop the high wages of our parliment to help fund it a bit more
or make a money from speed cameras pay for it and parking tickets to help fund it more
dont forget studants dont pay taxes either , maybe tax them aswell

i aint gona fall out with you mate, in my experience im dead against the whole thing, the bank calling in the loan was a good thing imo, the companie was nto making any money and my dad should have thought fook it, payed all his staff and then closed and we would be alot better off, thats his fault for being nice, the bank should not have allowed him to use his house as a business finance ( ok my dad should never have been that stupid either )
the point was they had no problems selling the house to resolve the debt and tbh the house was only 12k, the sale was actually for 7k too , my old man got fook all but screwed about by the dhss whilst his mates actually found new jobs aswell , he couldnt as he never had the experience as he was just a bloke who got lucky and made a business somehow , his business was tbh ran very well by his employees and thats why he didnt wanna loose em
anywayn that was ages ago, my old man is very happy ( well except hes got a serious eye infection thats making him go blind caused by his new job he got after , thats another story ), hes got his house, his daughter has a very very well payed job, i do ok in life even though i dont get payed that much im very very happy and i want for nothing as i can get what i want normally )
his only thing he hates in life is i have fallen out woth al of my family due to my younger days and i dont wanna know all of em except for my parents and now i got a kid and a family the rest of the tossers who turned there head in disgust rather that guide me and show me wanna know
so im not bitter, but i can see alot of this miseryn caused by loans and bad ideas from em and my dad too
thing is if we never had the money offered they would stay just like my 700bhp escossie cabrio idea, in my head

i dont agree with what the guy is thinking of doing but tbh the retailer isnt going to be out of pocket , it wont effect anyone on here in any way so i dont see why so many people are getting on their high horses about it .
Bal , i see where your coming from buddy and feel for you and your family . a natwest bank manager nearly put my old man under after agreeing a buisness loan then calling the money back in 3 months later so i sort of know what you all went thru .
credit agencies wouldnt bat an eyelid at taking everything you own for the sake of a couple of grand so why should any1 care if someone manages to get one over on them
i personally was out of work for over a year and strugled to make ends meet and even tho i had no income i had to find a way of meeting my card bill everymonth to avoid them paying me a visit . im in a much better position again now but it doesnt mean i have forgotten what its like to be skint . and untill youv been there i dont think you should pass judgement .
all my personal opinions of course

im not in a dream land at all, thats what should happen, if that was offered then would that not be a better option, they offer that deal for computers , they offer it for people in the city to ride to work rather than a car
why not do it for peoples health , why is that a dream, thats a good idea imo

My opinion "I hope the fooker goes to jail,I hope he get ass-raped every night, when he gets out i hope hes blacklisted for a long time,"
I/we all work hard just to scape by in some cases, what we cant aford we normally go without,ok a lot of us have credit cards but we choose to use them wisely and for our conveinience but to activley tell people what he intends to do then carry that out knowing full well that he will be never intending to pay anything back, well i hope he gets fooked BIG TIME the wanker and by the way i have toned this down because if i said what i really wanted to say i would be banned.
Hes a wanker and i wouldnt hesitate in passing his details on to the credit card company or police, fook im

i havent read all the thread so this might have already been pointed out
1.. if the credit card people can prove negligence (ie taking out a 15K loan with no hope of paying it back) then that opens a whole new set of rules, he wouldnt be able to go bankrupt and would have to pay the money back,it could also be classed as fraud, if its proved to be a fraudulent transaction then i dont know if the credit card company can take possession of the car once it has been sold , i would imagine they cant
2.. if he said that someone paid him 15K for the car and the money got stolen then that would involve customs (who have a lot more powers than the police) , in our big brother world an anti laundering law has been passed which means you cannot part with over 10K cash without the means to trace where it came from, your friends plan is flawed because customs will visit the buyer (new person on the cars log book) and demand to know where the cash came from, if he sold it legit he still has a problem when he comes to buy another car with the proceeds of his crime, the sellers would need proof of who he is because its now required by law. cheers nomad

not bad rudey i was really just pointing out this new anti money laundering law, basically if you buy something in cash for over 10K theres a good chance you will be asked to prove where it came from, basically its aimed at drug dealers but will affect anyone with a large amount of stashed cash (not me) when they come to spend it , so if anyone sells their pride and joy just make sure you have the proper name and address of the buyer if they paid in cash.

apples your mate better keep tje 15k hes gonna use for hiring a body gaurd as hes gonna get murdered by alot of PF users

Not quite sure how you could tax students anymore and especially given the difficulty finding an employer who wants to employ you around uni hours.

surely if he is working cash in hand then it stands a very fair chance hes claiming benefits- no point in working cash in hand otherwise! that means then that all us who do pay stamp and revenue are subsidising him.

does he really think his car insurers are going to pay out the £15k or whatever he says has been stolen in cash?
even the house insurers would refuse that, and as stated before, the fraud units would be called in to try and trace where it came from by looking through bank accounts etc
if he thought it was sure fire to work wouldnt we all be doing it??!!!

It's probably possible to be honest, i read in the paper last week i think it was, about a guy who killed himself because he owed £220k on credit cards, mostly from barclays. I know there has to be some sort of self control, but there should be laws against that, they guy only earned about £20k a year and had a family, his wife was unable to work, yet they still kept giving him money!
#159
Sorry, anyone owing 220K on credit cards needs therapy IMO.
It's not the lenders fault the guy has no self-control
If you can't afford what you want to buy, you shouldn't buy it...end of.
This "buy today pay next year" culture is going to ruin a lot of people long term...and personally I think most of them only have themselves to blame
Whatever happened to saving up the cash to buy stuff??

There were special circumstances to be honest, the guys wife had cancer and she was off work, and loads of other unfortunate things. It was quite a sad story to be honest, but he didn't tell anyone, not even his wife about what was happening. i see your point tho, any average idiot could go and take out a loan and just not pay it, but you'll always end up getting fucked in the end.
