so wills and katie are getting married in london.police forces everywhere are stretched and facing cuts so where is the money to police their wedding going to come from?the country is on a high state of terrorist alert and this is bound to attract attention from extremists so will be prob the biggest event in a long time requiring all levels of policing.you know who will pay ultimately,us!

They should get married up in one of their big stately homes / castles up in Scotland on an undisclosed date, family only low key affair, with a few cameras so joe public can watch at a later date.
Minimal security required that way. As it is it's gonna cost the tax payer millions. Not saying they both don't deserve to be happy or have a nice wedding, just don't think the tax payer should be footing the bill for it.

The Monarchy is a valuable asset to the UK. They generate Millions of pounds via the tourist trade and are more than worth the cost to the public.

Fair enough but at the end of the day this is the 2nd most direct heir to the throne and will be a future king so cant really argue with it tbh, after all this is the United KINGdom we live in !!

As a decendant of King Henry IV, King Charles II, King James II and VII, Charles I and many others i think he is entitled to a state wedding.

As for the cost the tens of millions of pounds it will take to stage the wedding is only a very small drop in the ocean of the UK debt.

At present the interest alone on the UK debt is Ł120million PER DAY !!!

The blame really lies with the prev Labour govt and the obsene amount of borrowing to finance the welfare state - we will all have to suffer so picking on the cost of Royal Wedding is negliable in the scale of things.

The thing you also need to consider is that the UK economy will be boosted way more than the cost of the wedding by the tourism this will attract - the money from tourists visting for the wedding will easily outweigh the initial cost of the wedding so essentially its actually raising money for the UK economy not spending it !!

It will cost a lot of money with some of the worlds most important leaders will be invited so the security details will be massive, i don't think it's a waste of money as it's a royal wedding and a huge thing for the UK

Are you serious, or did you just forget the "Roll On The Floor Laughing My Fucking Arse off" smiley?

How many tourists come to Britain to see the Royals, rather than the scenery, the historic sites, the attractions like the London Eye, or Edinburgh Castle or whatever one of many reasons they may have for coming here?

And how many of those tourists ACTUALLY get to see the Royals?

Personally, I think that we could sell off the Royals to anyone that wants them, maybe Australia or New Zealand or one of the other Commonwealth countries?

Then we could open up the whole of Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Sandringham, Balmoral etc and let the tourists pay to come in for a proper nosy, just like we have already done with the Royal Yacht Britannia which is now a far bigger draw than it ever was when the best you could hope for was to maybe catch a glimpse from a safe distance.

I don't care if my family's share of the cost is a single penny - I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that I won't ever get that penny back and I don't want to pay.

All of those would be worth nothing as an attraction if they hadn't been used by Royals.

stop fucking whinging. Its completely insignificant.

Benefit fraud alone costs us Ł80 each every year.

Plenty of other more important shit you should be worrying about with your money rather than the monarchy.

It's my money and I'll moan if I like. They never sent me anything for my wedding.

And as for the value of the real estate, it HAS been used by the Royals already so we don't need them any more. St Petersburg and Versailles prove that people will still visit years afterwards.

We recognise value and royal anything isn't.

As for the parliament, it was tendered by the UK Government, contract awarded, and (mis)-managed by the UK Government but you're right, we in Scotland had to pay for it - every fucking penny.

considering the royal family are estimated to bring in directly and indirectly in tourism Ł500m a year, ie Ł8 per person in the UK, your still whinging over 1 pound??

Yep. I won't see any of that Ł8, and am quietly confident that we could make Ł16 by having proper tours of the former royal palaces, and save a HUGE amount of costs.

If you are so sure they offer great value I'll propose a deal:
We'll float the royal family on the stock exchange, either as a firm or as individual businesses - and everytime Phil says something stupid or offensive you can see his share price fluctuate on the stock exchange.

Everything they do, they can charge for if they can find someone willing to hire them. Personal appearances, speeches, supermarket openings, mugs and tea-towel licencing, etc. That becomes their revenue stream.
From this ALL their operating costs are paid. Travel, security, property maintenance, etc. Those are the costs of operating the business.
Whatever is left is available to build up some reserves or to pay the shareholders. Obviously, the shareholders carry any losses too.

Seem fair?
Feel confident? (Or lucky?)

PS - When has Great Britain ever had an Elizabeth I?

why do people get so worked up over something they have absolutely no control over?

things like this never affect anyone on a personal level, so why worry about it?

My dislike of Royalty has little or nothing to do with being Scottish (apart from the current Betty calling herself EIIR when we've never had EIR, or the lack of respect in collecting the Scottish Crown Jewels in twinset & pearls avec handbag on her arm, compared to the pomp at Westminster abbey).

My dislike is really down to the fact that I don't believe in the hereditary principle.
I'm quietly confident that you won't want me to come to your medical aid just because my dad was a doctor, for instance.

Some valid points raised here.

I concede and agree in principle to the Royal Wedding at tax payers expense. As a form of compensation, I think we should all be issued with a video of the marriage consummation , she's fit

Can someone point me to the link where they have said the taxpayer is paying for all of it?

As far as I understand any event that involves large numbers of police has to contribute toward the cost of the policing.

And a Royal wedding will bring in LOADS of revenue to the country. Iain, why don't you set up a wedding memorabilia stall at your market? Then you might get a few quid in your pocket.

the royals are all inbred foreigners anyway.theres a guy living a humble life in outback australia who would have been king today and still has a right to the throne iirc.wonder if all the tourists would come if they knew that.
