FAO - Game programmers/designers/those in the industry - please help! :D
Wondering if you guys could help me out alittle with this situation.
I'm a secondary school teacher and have a year 7 form group (11/12 year olds). I've just found out one of my students is extremely good at making his own games and enjoys working with computers.
What I wanted to know is whether any of you experienced guys know of companies/organisations that support the development of young people in this field as schools are somewhat weak in this field.
It would be a shame to see such talent go to waste and being young i'm sure there is plenty of things he can learn.
Any advice would be appreciated, if you would like to visit the school to show off your own work/give advice etc then give us a shout.
Many thanks

Sorry I can not offer any help, but I think it fantastic that you are trying to help this students future development.
I wish my school teachers would have been more intrested and helpful. Instead of just being there because they had to!

As above, I cant help but its cool he has a teacher who wants to try and help him.
One thing i would suggest is that its quite easy to develop games for the iPhone and facebook etc and to give them away free in the itunes store, so maybe he could start doing that as if I was interviewing a university leaver for a job on my team of programmers (finance software mainly not games!) I would certainly view it as a plus point on his CV if he had been doing that sort of thing.
I started programming computers at 7 years old and now 28 years later make a pretty reasonable living doing so, so it is a hobby that can certainly turn into work, so a good thing to nurture.
