Mate of mine used to have a Brocock air pistol revolver that used air cartridges, fun to shoot but a major PITA to pump the cartridges back up !

I'm pretty sure they got banned as they were so easy to covert to use real ammo.

If a person owned one of these at the time of the law amendment, they were able to get a firearms certificate for it. Funny thing was, these guns were available for years, there could well be thousands sold over the years and then the government realised that they made a cunt of the home office approval.
Persuading the air cartridges to take an 8mm centre fire blank was far too easy

Its a shame that due to attrocities that a vast amount of firearms are banned when there are sensible people who use to enjoy shooting them recreationaly.
The vast amount of illegal shootings are generally not done by cerificate holders..
Personally I would have prefered to see firearms stored at an approved gun club with tighter control over their access so that people could still enjoy them.
Problem is with these blank fire weapons are they are easier to obtain than fully functional firearms and are used more in crime.

sorry if i upset some of you but seriously guns that go bang and do nothing are fucking pointless......... i used to live and breath shooting and when hand guns where banned i was gutted as it was the only thing back then i was genuinely good at and have a shit load of trophies to prove this. my dad and cousin gave up but my grandad and i moved onto shooting rifles and my grandads underlever 44magnum was the bollocks but tbh it still wasnt as exciting as handguns so we moved onto shotgun shooting where i found i was very good but by then i was driving and cars started to take over......... i then got my first cossie and i had to choose........ guns or the cossie and i kept the cossie so shooting stopped and tbh i do sometime miss it but i still got to shot some wicked guns and shot against some of the greatest shoters in the world so cant complain.
just so you know i was the youngest firearms and shotguns licence holder in hampshire and dorset (15) so mr zetec sam you know nothing about me so keep your mouth shut twat

And I do like guns, I'm not some gun hater. I have had air guns and shot guns all my life and I've played around with blank firers before and handled various decommissioned hand guns (real Luger etc) but I have to agree at the end of the day it's a bit sad really I think I'd rather have an old decommissioned gun that has the looks, weight and history to it rather than a replica that fires blanks because by design it's for you to pretend you're firing a gun at some point. I'd feel a right plonker to be seen standing there firing blanks mind you I might take one clay shooting, I'd probably bash more clays

the one i wanted was the PPK using micro cartridges. I reckon with a minor redesign and a pressure increase you could make it cycle properly like the real thing. At one point Id designed a M16 style bolt carrier, bolt, extractor and recoil assembly to take BACS that with a boost in pressure could probably self load Bit nuts i know! The damn things got banned before i could make it. Would have been a good hobby project.

I sort of agree really lol, it is a bit odd to have something like this that just goes BANG! I mean why do people have them, do they think it makes them a bit gangster or something?

most of the M16 componants designs are easily available. In principle it doesnt take much to redesign them to chamber a BACS. the hard bit is getting the buffer/recoil right so that the system will cycle. You can even use the original gas port idea. A lighter alloy bolt carrier and lower rating spring wont need so much gas to recoil etc. I worked out youd still need to uprate the bacs to take more pressure though or it wont self load. the lower receiver etc stays all the same though.
would have quite good military use if you could redesign a very high pressure BACS to chamber in a modern 5.56 rifle. Think about it, no muzzle flash, much reduced heat, safer storage of ammo, less weapon cleaning (no carbon build up in gas parts etc).

I used to have a few replicas, baretta, desert eagle, 357 magnum, p38, lugar, sold them all now, I do have a soft air m16 a2 which is pretty good for a model quite heavy too
