Diesel remaps - worth it?
#42
Turbo Diesel Tuning is the future.
Boxes Vs Remaps is an endless argument and there are valid points for each, however, back to back the box will NEVER win, it simply cant, as it cannot overcome ECU limits such as boost and torque limiters, it cant remove DPF programming, change road speed limiters, the list goes on...
The things to look out for with a Diesel Remap are pretty simple:
Don't be the next customer whom comes to us to get their ECU working again after someone has damaged it with cheap tools and diesel tuning inexperience. Remember, tools are cheap, knowledge is invaluable.
Which brings me neatly to...
Just to clarify this:
The "Genius" is only the tool that talks to the ECU. The actual software that goes into the ECU is totally down to the calibrator that the operator is using for his files.
In short, the "Genius" handset is just like a 13mm spanner, its a tool, and has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the quality of the remap.
I wanted to clarify that as there are some real cowboys out there killing cars on an hourly basis using the Genius, just as there are some great installers doing great jobs with one.

The things to look out for with a Diesel Remap are pretty simple:
- 7 day no quibble trial period so you can test in your own time.
- Lifetime warranty on the product against corruption or other defect.
- Easy access to your original calibration file if you need it.
- Power and torque improvement guaranteed.
- Fuel economy improvements guaranteed if turbo diesel powered.
- Vat registered file supplier. (No file supplier with quite a few installers could possibly stay below the vat threshold surely?)

Agree..the evolution software is all done via the dimsport genius witch is what we use.

People to talk to here are Evo Chips Middlesex...
Bobby's Golf puts out 266hp (unsure of torque), from a PD150 Mk4 Golf (big turbo yes), and STILL retains 40-50mpg!! The car does 300-400odd miles a week if not more!
This guy is THE guy to talk to when it comes to tuning diesels!
Hes pretty far from you (west london), however, it might be worthwhile getting his opinion!

But, they're all a generic map on the boxes, and due to engines not being 100% the same, don't alwyas get the best results. A decent re-map from somewhere like AMD will include them checking the map, rolling roading the car, and if needed altering the map to get the best gains from the engine.
