Default Formula One 2011 @ Silverstone, is it worth going?

Its soon approaching my 30th birthday and have always fancied going to see F1.

For those that have been-
-Is it worth it?
-The tickets for silver uncovered grandstand fri-sun is £199 per person, is this as good as the price will get?
-Are you better just watching it on the tv and going to the touring cars instead?

Your valid views would be much appreciated.

Thanks Tony

Its ok. I hadn't been for few years as prefered to watch it on TV. But went this year as Maria wanted to go as she had never been...

You NEED to get a radio, or Kangaroo TV though. otherwise you wont know whats going.

oh... and as its your 30th. Treat yourself and fly in by chopper! its the way forward

I went this year, Fri-Sun, was a good laugh as the weather was pretty mint the whole weekend, bbq's and piss ups in the camp site, well worth going if you've never been before and you're a big petrol head, would probably be a bit boring if you stayed for the full 3 days if you weren't a true petrol head so beware if taking your missus.

£199 sounds like a decent price, doubt you'll find anywhere cheaper than that, although camping will probably be extra ~£80 each for the whole weekend.

I'd consider going to Spa instead, IMO the spectating at Silverstone is among the worst!!! I was so looking forward to Donnington, shame it went tits up as far as F1 goes...

If its your 30th and you and a few mates are going then its the best £199 you will spend mate as its a fantastic weekend.

BBq's, beers, etc and just prey the weather is on your side LOL.

If you have never heard an F1 car then please go as you will shot your man muck everywhere LOL

Nothing better that a screaming V8 at 17500 RPM

Or when the techs are controlling the RPM in the pit garage and blipping the throttle. Fuck me its awesome. You can see the stand windows rattling.

Well worth the money in my opinion.

I went in 2008 and had an awesome day.

As Porkie says though, make sure you get a radio and can see a big screen or you wont have a clue whats actually happening!

Defintely something to do at least once

You have to do it once, the noise (especially in the first few laps) and the corner speeds are unreal!

I went to Spa this year and even though the weather was shite the racing was far better than anything you will see at Silverstone amd its a much better atmosphere too!

Would deffo geta grandstand seat as we watched from general admission and it was a bastard just to stand up on the banking up the back straight

I've been once and it's worth it for the experience. Wouldn't go again though.

I follow what's going on in F1, but I don't really make a point of watching it and am not really a fan, but it's worth going to a GP for the atmosphere on the day. Different kettle of fish really.

I'm a MASSIVE BTCC fan and go to the odd race (usually at Oulton Park), but as you're only ever going to be able to see a couple of corners at most, you're going to miss 85% of the action at least. You have the tannoy there, but to follow the racing it's better to watch it live on ITV4. But again the atmosphere and literally feeling the engine noise in your chest, the pitlane walkabout etc...

I'm far less interested in F1, but you get all the glitz etc with it.

The problem with wandering round is that there's bloody hoarding everywhere.

Best view IMHO are either the concrete steps by in front of the Luffied grandstand (you can see the cars appear at the end of the 'wellington straight', through brooklands, luffield and onto the pit straight; or around chapel/becketts, where you can see them coming all the way down from copse onto the hanger straight.

Just watch it on Tv and see the whole race. Go to the track and see only a small piece of the racing. Plus, with being at home youve got all the comforts, its not great being in an uncovered stand in the rain, and..you can switch channels if you get bored..

Nice one

Its probably better going to Silverstone first as would be a bit shit to go all the way to Spa and be bored after 10 minutes lol.

i went to spa last year with my brother for the weekend, enjoyed it but i dont think i would go again, qualifying we barely saw, never bothered with stand passes so had to make do with what we could find, managed to get a good spot on sunday though, overlooking about 3 corners and 2 straights with a big tv infront of us.
well worth doing once IMO just for the noise and atmosphere, but to actually follow the race i would stay at home.

I have been to Silverstone a few times but if you want to get close enough to the cars and be within touching distance when they are fired up go to The Festivel of Speed at Goodwood, ok they are last years cars but i found it so much better than going to the race.
