A Fiesta would be good, and cheap... Just don't spend money on alloy wheels and spoilers and stuff if it's a shed. Try and make it clean first, and mechanically sound, so when you do finally pass your test you'll have a nice reliable first car.

and no crashing through the ripspeed section of halfrauds either ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
and seriously for the sake of your insurance i wouldnt bother lowering it or putting on alloys. its pointless on an old non sporty car, just looks wrong and lowering springs on a shitty old car just fucks your handling up even more. oh and not forgetting the insurers WILL rape you for it as an old banger with cheesy mods puts you firmly in the same category as chav racers and hence increased risk and boosted premiums.
your better off keeping it standard a couple of years to build up NCB then get a decent car.

You sound like you have got your head screwed on the right way lad. You need to get yourself a mk5 1.25 zetec fiesta. Nippy enuf for a first car and you can modify it as you get older and insurance companies won't try to rape you along the way

I'd get an old MK2 Fez or a MK4 Escort or something. Stuff like that seems a bit cheaper to insure these days in my experience. Get a decent shell and then make sure it's tidy and in good running order, and then you can always add a few bits from sporty models, wheels and seats etc to make it a bit nicer.
Wouldn't worry too much about insuring it with mods, I never had a problem insuring a car with alloys and things on when I was younger, just have to phone around and see who will do the best price.
I think a nice clean looking MK4 Escort 3dr lowered over some S2 rims is a much cooler ride than some Corsa/Saxo/106 or whatever that will cost you about £3k to insure!

I'd get something cool and different for your 1st car. I had a Mk1 Escort and loved it. The prices are too high these days tho. I'd be getting a Mk1 Fiesta. Could make a supersport rep, that would be cool as hell for a 17 year old IMO.

I would get an Orion and do some nice subtle mods, everyone seems to overlook the Orion in favour of the Escort.
Or like Escy just said get something like a MK1 Fiesta and make it into an Xr2 / Supersport replica.
