Default 4K to spend?

Right i have up to 4 grand to spend on a new car. looking at coupes less than 10 years old.

thinking along the lines of:

RX8
Audi TT
BMW 3 series+ compact
Celica

Any other ideas?

Has anyone owned and RX8? seem cheap now what are real MPG figures like just with normal driving?

Cheers.

The economy on the rx8 is appalling,20mpg is the absolute best, high emissions too so tax isn't cheap either.
They seem to suffer from engine issues as well,I noticed a lot for sale before with engine problems quite cheaply. My mate has/had a lovely one that was cat d with big wheels on it etc but I don't know if it's still available?

Tt is a good car,but lots around, didn't realise they were 4k motors though?thought nearer 5-6?

Celica sadly doesnt live up to the incredible Toyota reputation for reliability, the number in my mates scrappy proves the theory and I've done an engine box and clutch on one myself, nice car to drive though, handled very well.

BMW are always a good bet but may lack the excitment of the others unless you go down the 330i route, again pushing it a bit @ £4k.

You'd get a stonking st170 for that money or maybe at a push a high miles st220,which are a really good car, quick too.

i love the cl500's. you get a lot of car for your money, this one a little over budget but as its a dealer i bet you would get a deal somewhere close to you 4k, just in the 10 year age limit as well, and normal pre2001 tax not the high tax.

Out of that list i'd go for the BMW. The 320D is an excellent car, good spread of torque, economical and handles well also great build quality. The 330i is fairly quick and should also be in your price range although needless to say economy isnt its forte.
Avoid the Mazda at all costs. They reach 60K and the expensive problems seem to occur. We've had two in the workshop recently and both have been real headaches..

You can pick up an early 330i coupe for 4k ish now mate, good cars, if you want to spend less look for a low mileage 328i sport 1999 model is fairly nice. I have an auto 328i an actually don't find the ecconomy an issue, i commute to London every day, 12 miles taking an hour minimum so an average speed of max 12 mph lol and the old bimmer is chugging along showing 19mpg at the moment, on a long run i get 38mpg.... a manual 330 will probably be better as well.

If you buy a compact i think you will probably be banned.

Out of those it would be TT for me, as said celica doesn't live up to the hype, beemers have no character(imo), and RX8 is best not even mentioned, used one for a week I could easily get it under 10mpg, was few years back but sure I never bettered 15mpg, owner used to get 17/18, went through a litre of oil every 400 miles driving normally from memory.
