Thumbs up Advice Please

Hey Guys , so im a new user and this is my first post , basicly im 15 , and bought a Mk4 Escort GL (4 Door , 1.6 Carb) , i'd been saving up for like , two xmas's an a birthday , and found the car for sale while walking to my mates , i love the old boxy angular escorts so gave the guy a bell and he said £800 , so went down next day an nabbed it for £750 , its got KONI suspension all round , 3 Spoke New steering wheel , alloy wheels and a Beaut exhaust , also new air intake manifold , its all immaculate but basicly i want to "do it up" , not like a boy racer i mean properly so it looks class , not some chav with a 1.0 corsa and fat pipes :P , i'll hopefully be getting a saturday job in a garage soon to get to grips with the basics of mechanics , money wise i'll be getting things bit by bit gradualy , but since you guys know what your on with i was wondering if anyone had some pointers? i'm thinking of getting some nice wheel arches and skirts? also has RS style front and rear bumper (the guy was desperate to get rid of it) P.S insurance is sorted so you dont need to tell me about the astronomical price its gonna be when i can drive

I'd not bother sticking arches and stuff on, they usually look shite on 4dr Escorts IMO... at the most, I'd fit a 90-spec RS Turbo front bumper and color code the back bumper. But, if its got normal black non-coded bumpers then I'd just leave them as is and treat them to some back to black so they look mint.

Sure there is a thread in the photo bit which shows base spec MK4 escorts and they look miles better with very little done apart from making mint.... put a few pics up for us.

Cheers,
Grant

I would go a similar line to misterescort in the link posted earlier.

Make the bodywork mint
nice ride height
rs turbo interior - a must!
decent looking alloys - maybe in a dark grey graphite finish
decent back box
maybe an rs bonnet

That would be about it, a little but euro but custom styled rather than stick on kits that make it look like a botch up. Super clean and simple with nice rims - job done!

Run it like that for a couple of years until insurance permits you to have something quicker.

As long as you're not trying to sell your mates then the moderators shouldn't mind.

The engines my last priority as weird as that sounds , i'm only using it (for now , well , two years from now) to get from my house to colledge/sixth form so the 1.6 is quick 'enough' , also why not wheel arches (sob sob)

I'd get some 16" mondeo 5-spoke wheels... keep the suspension, get a single 3.5" backbox exhaust, some 90-spec RST bumpers (or some standard black base spec bumpers) and fit an RS Turbo interior with a reasonable sound system.

I reckon that'd make a decent wee runner for a 17yr old.

Cheers,
Grant

Take a look at this link: http://www.newoldcar.co.uk/carlisting92.htm

Thats a 90-spec interior mate, much better front seats than you've got in there just now and shouldn't cost a fortune to source some either.

Grant

Yeah that does look a lot better , but i was thinking about putting some racing style seats in? not like , FIA approved Recaro ones or anything , ive seen some OMP Racing style ones for like , £76 i think , something around that area , and then get some black covers for the back seats , and re fabric the doors and that , what ya rekon would be best?

Cheers

Aye, if it was me then I'd stick the full RS interior in the car cause the Recaros are brilliant seats and would look more standard and less modified that way, but it all depends what you want mate.

Cracking looking car that, keep it simples and the ride height as is but some bigger rims,if you can afford escos then go for them or as said some 15/16" Mondeo Cossie style wheels.

De badging,de chroming etc makes these cars really look up to date,I like them with clears myself and the black/red rear lights.

As it's 4 door you could get some cheap Saph cos cloth recaros,I've got a few sets myself to brighten up the interior then you can just enjoy it!!

if you are going to wrap it then leave it as is,that way you wont lose too much money!
i would fit an rst bonnet (im selling 1),mondeo 16" wheels.lower it so it sits right.as for arches, when you fit the s2 kit to a 4 door the rear doors dont open as the arches cover them, and it will fail the mot.unsure whats different with the '4 door' kit but i imagine the arch is in 3 pieces, which will make fitting a pain to get it all lined up.dont buy chrome stick on shite from halfords, dont use harnesses with standard seats as its dangerous,if you fit the s2 interior then the doorcards wont match and im unsure if the rear seat will fit on the hinges.never done this before but know the estate is different.
lastly, ill mention it again, dont buy chrome stick on crap from halfords,or anything from lockwood to accessorise the interior.
good luck,btw pics?
