Default I am fecked off. 47% insurance rise

I pissed off, I'm having to take my rs off the road for a couple of years just because i cant afford to pay the insurance. i feel atho everyone has something to say about it but no ones doing anything to solve this problem ? what can we do tho ?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11516195

I am only 18 and have been driving for a year i totally expect my insurance to be high but not 3.5k I am not some boy racer who is out every night at stupid times racing around I don't drink never have done and i only use the car for shows.

I have excepted that i cant get insured this year d figure that if i buy a run around i will be able to build up some no claims so i went on go compare. and did a few different cars just to show the price Ive been getting . Btw this is with my dad on as a named driver.

Ive been on the phone for hours trying to get a half decent quote and the cheapest i got for my rs is 3.5k

no wonder people drive with no cover.

Good Lord! My only suggestion is wait until you're over 45, then not only will the insurance be cheaper, your car will by then be well & truely a classic, so cheaper again, win win I'd say

Sorry bad joke, feel sorry for genuine chaps who get lumbered with hi premiums when all they want to do is enjoy their car, paying for other peoples bad ways I suppose.

Bad luck.

It is stupid I love my car and i wont sell it im happy to wait becuase at the end of the day i only have a year driving excperiance as a named driver so i can fully understand why insurace companys wouldent want to insure me on a '' sport'' car. however if i cant get insured on a 25 year old 1.1 fiesta how am i meant to build up and ncb ?>

Like i said i dont drink i dont even smoke so that cuts the risk down and i would be more than happy to only insure it at certain times of the day but no one wants to hear about it. it seems like when phone the companys they instantly think im a boy racer.

what group insurance is an rs turbo.. from memory 15 - 16?

yours also looks like a fairly intensively modified version going from your brag list in your sig....

you're 18 years old with zero NCB! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT with a car like that!

Micra 998cc for you my boy! on your OWN policy!

I think your eyes need testing dave. like i said fully understand i wont be gettting insured on my rs. would you pay 1500 for a 1.1 thats 3 times more that i would pay for the car. and rs is ony group 14.

Why. Becasuse you said ' WHAT DO YOU EXCPECT' i WAS excpecting my rs to be excpencive as i said before.

I am more that willing to drive a snotter but surely if you where in my position you wouldent be paying over 1k for somthing thats worth a few hunderd quid.

I think your best bet is to build up some no claims on another car. Try and avoid token boy racer cars. My first car was a 1.6 Primera as a 19 year old and my insurance was 800 with my parents as named drivers. It wasn't rs turbo fast but it handled really well. My brother is 21 now with 2 years no claims and he still pays over a grand for his standard corsa 1.2.

so when i phoned to check it was rite, he said

'yes, so would you like to renew your policy with us sir ?'

i replied

'what do you think, just send me my proof of no claims please'

i was 19 when i got my 1st policy of my own,1.4 mk4 escort van, fully comp with the cis and it was £440 iirc,i got a mk4 cabby 3i when i was 22,that was £850 fully comp.im 31 now so obviously prices went up.round by me there were young lads who had reasonably new cars, corsas, vectras etc and crashed often and always had their cars repaired by the insurer till eventually they wrote them off and got paid out eventually.
1 guy was left a fortune from his aunt,he bought a new (y reg) vectra and it was always in getting bumpers, wings, gearboxes etc.eventually i think vauxhall told him to stay away, the car was abandoned in a garage when it was 2 years old, smashed up and broken down because he couldnt get anybody to fix it,his money was all gone and he couldnt get insurance for less than 4k.idiots like him have driven the good drivers premiums up.

Sadly it's never been EASY or cheap to insure anything in your own name at 18 mate.....we've all been there, my mum used to own my car when i was younger and i had to be a named driver to keep the cost down!
Get your head down and get the lowest insurance group car you can and build up the no claims.......and forget about your rs turbo until you're 21 (bit pointless buying one at your age tbh).

unfortunately its all statistics.
greedy fat cats at the top.

but an rs is tar'd with the brush for being a boy racer car. and you can bet ya bottom dollar a fair number of them have been crashed, stolen and burned. this pushing the risk of this car up and you have to pay. sucks ass.

im 23, been driving 2 and bit years and i have 1 years no claims, when i came to insure my Renault 21 turbo (2litre) I found TPFT to be about 600! but opted for the 800 FC option.

the misses has just passed her driving test last week and at 18, with 0 NCB trying to get her insured on a 1litre corsa which is insurance group 1 is coming in at 2000 on her own policy! stupidity.

It's also not always cheaper to insure a shit car, as they assume you don't care about it and more likely to smash it. My XR3 is costing me £800 TPFT a year to insure and I've told them it's worth £800, yet I've had quotes this week for my ERST with all mods declared fully comp with an agreed values of 6-9k (value upon inspection) for £1100-1400

I'm 19 in Jan so gunna wait till then to get a run around. my rs is of the road for the winter anyway having a nice new paint job and resto thanks fully my old mans a legend and is going to drive it to all the shows next year. i don't need the money and i love the car so much so I'm going to keep it till i can insure it.

whats pissing me off is i cant even ge insured on a proper shitter fo a good price. cheers for all the comments lads it seems unfortunate that times have changed but every cloud has its silver lining and I'm going to have a monster of a rs to use when it comes back on the road

just to add my insurance last year was 2000 but that was on my old mans policy (shared car) but becuase he no longer need to use it i would rather wait and legaly insure it

not sure if this helps but...

get your dad to insure it as classic car and drive it under your policy for the run around car (to drive other cars)

my capri (2.8i on a 87)was £130 to insure as classic with sureteam as i have the ther car as main drive

It's fucking terrible for youngsters right now.my boys 15 this month so I've got two years to prepare myself!!!

Can you get a part time traders policy at your age?Ive always had trade insurance so I've sort of taken it for granted really but it's such a handy thing to have, pisses the Feds off no end as well!!

There can be a few clauses in them but generally I think it's the best way if there's more than one of you drive different cars quite often.

I pay £759 for me and the missus any car,but there are a few clauses in this years policy, permission to drive certain cars etc but I may pay £200 extra which covers me on any motorbike as well.

its spelt sureterm direct and as long as the main car is insured ie my capri, then i cannot see why another driver with a policy to drive another car cannot drive it, nothing in the policy wording that i can see- unless i have missed something

I understand what you're saying mate but unfortunately your £100 shed could have faulty brakes etc and you could go write off a car worth £100,000!!! I do sympathise with you all getting these ridiculous quotes though

in 1992 when i was 18 my series one rs turbo cost me £2200 to insure(clean licence zero no claims)after loads of searching and that was only third party...not fire and theft!....i wanted the car,so i paid it...and to this day i don't regret that for a moment!....i've had most RS models over the years and that still to me was the most special and best looking of the lot and holds the best memories(that you can never forget or try to recreate at a later date)......so if you want the car that badly, you will pay it!...so £3500 in todays money doesn't sound that bad to me!

Have you tried fully comp?

As it seems you have tried 3pf&t.

Done a quote recently on a Vectra Gsi valued at £1500, Fully Comp was £400 cheaper at £800.
