A little tip worth trying: Try insuring the £100 fiesta with a value of say £2000. This used to bring the premium down LOADS a few years ago. Its all down to them 'thinking' you will take more care when driving if its 'worth' more. Its perfectly ok to do this and your not breaking any laws at all. The value is just your opinion of what you think the car is 'worth'.

Also, try going for fully comp or TPFT (if your going for TPO that is) as this often brings the premium down too.

Oh, and try added a partner/spouse onto the policy as this can bring it down too as some companies offer an 'insured + spouse' discount.

The above tips work, try them first.
The only real way though is to build your NCB on your own policy.
Currently pay for a BMW 135i (2010) £260 fully comp..

It's not greedy fat cats at the top, it's two things - Young male drivers crash a lot more than anyone else, and the number of 'injury claims' has rocketted. It will only be a matter of time before our premiums are on a par with the craziness in Ireland, and you can thank the ambulance chasers, and everyone who has put in a bogus injury claim.

I have excepted that i cant get insured this year d figure that if i buy a run around i will be able to build up some no claims so i went on go compare. and did a few different cars just to show the price Ive been getting . Btw this is with my dad on as a named driver.

Ive been on the phone for hours trying to get a half decent quote and the cheapest i got for my rs is 3.5k

no wonder people drive with no cover.
m8 i feel for u i paid 2035 for my 07 corsa 1.2 wen i woz 21 paid 2200for my rs last year with 1 years ncb paid 1200 this year and i am 23 with 2 years ncb just pay the premium for now and have a day here and there on ur rs for the shows m8 its shit but the insurers can get away with it

I can't believe some of these quotes!

At 21 with 1 years NCB my Saff only cost me £1500! And I thought THAT was extortionate at the time!

I paid £1300 TPFT on an Xr2 Mk2 87(E) which I paid £1500 for back in 1995 when I passed my test at 17.

Then the year after I traded for an Escort RS Turbo and it was £800 FC or £550 TPFT, I can't honestly remember which one I went for now

However it pretty much dropped 50% after the first year.

Now I'm paying £480 for both my Cossy and Mondeo FC....

It's worth the wait

Insuring my erst early this year every company on Compare was 2k+ but rung adrian flux and they quoted me £1045 for the year with mods declaired and that was with No no cliams. Was £700 cheaper just because i listed the mods aposed to standard!

Moaning about insurance costs, yet telling me to do one when I point out an illegal car just like the ones that contribute to the higher costs in the first place.

Try HIC classic insurance mate. You can get covered on a classic policy with them. Theres no restriction on the mmain driver, but the additional has to be 25 or over. Its worth a phone call pal

Lol at the above!

Mines similar Ste. I'm 19 but my gf is 30. So because we live together I can put 'Married/Commonlaw/Partner' and it brings it down a ridiculous amount.

Your area.....
I nearly cried the other week... My postcode is a 'G' rated area. The highest risk, because it's within Greater Manchester. I got an insurance quote for a lovely £5000 BMW 330ci sport that I instantly fell in love with and BOOM! whadya know - £5000 to insure it too. And when I did a quote on an 'A' rated area (the lowest risk).... £1100 quid.*

I couldn't effing believe it.

So if you want cheap insurance people... Move to Kings Road in Aberdeen. Cheap as foosh

Yes because it's a lie.

People quoting x-many pounds for a hot car they ran 10+ years ago means squat compared to today's prices.

Last year I paid £500 to insure my V40 which I thought was steep but then about 3 years ago I wrote off a Rover (wasn't really my fault but it went down as such so hard lines). This year the renewal quote comes through at over £1300! The only change since last year is that the car and I are a year older and I have another year's no claims so why has the price almost tripled?

The answer?

They've been hit where it hurts - the profit margins. What's happened in the last 12 months that cost them a lot of money? Snow and lots and lots of claims.

insurance is a fucking pisstake, endof!

when i was 20, i had 3 crashes, 2 my fault, 1 not and a 28 ban for speeding - i was fucked basically.

was getting quotes for £1600 for a 1.0l mini, so got a 205 gti lol and paid 1700...

this years insuracne ont he 3dr was £580, which i didnt think was too bad considering its got a roll cage, different engine a 5x the power lol

if i had the capitol i would create my own insurance company and charge new drivers £1500, but with an excess of say 1k...

its no wonder that these days there are so many uninsured drivers, i mean, who the fuck is gonna pay £3k a year just to be allowed todrive a car!

At least a law is coming in soon that women drivers wont get cheaper insurance than men, the most sexist industry ever the car insurance brokers, if it had been the other way round would have been in years ago

It's not sexist, it's based on statistics - Men crash more often, and more spectacularly than women. Men cost the insurance industry more money, so are charged more.

I do think it's funny that women are going to have to subsidise our antics though!

1997 i passwe my test at 17 and paid 700 quid on an E reg mk 2 fiesta 1.1 tpft.
year later I bought a mk4 escort 1.4l that was 800 tpft with 1 years no claims.
2000 i bought a 3i and that was 700 tpft with 3 years no claims.
2001 1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo with 9 points was 1200 quid fully comp with adrain flux which I thought was spot on for the offences. Now at the age of 30 I pay 250 for the escort on classic insurance, and 300 on a mk3 1.3 fiesta. You fella's at 18 / 19 get fucking raped, and there's no real benefit getting an old shitbox to run around in for 2 years to build up the NCB (

no.... its a shame, cause like you, i only use this car for shows and nice weekends and to go to the monthly local RS meet, but other than that its locked up in a garage lol i do less than 5k miles a year so its on a limited milage policy aswell....

and tbh i dont even drive it that quick tbh cause theres no need really..... occasionally ill put my foot down on a dual carrigeway if its quiet but not lose ya license speeds..... save that till i get the balls to stick it on a track lol

tbh i dont think their going to go down untill near enough every young driver starts driving without insurance, if there getting 2-3k per young driver per year hundreds of young drivers, and its not like their going to run out with thousands of people passing each day/ week..... if they can get that sort of money for it they will!!!!

like i say untill everyone starts driving around with no insuracne theres no reason for them to drop their prices if poeple are payign them..... and like conor, i also get stupid quotes for small cars i.e. i got quoted 3.5k on a 1.9 deisel focus.....completly standard..... its stupid.... i think i may invest in a bicycle lol

Odd logic, people having no insurance won't bring poilcies down, quite the opposite.

The ONLY way we're going to see cheaper premiums is when ambulance chasers and insurance fraudsters are stopped. My neighbour got £60k for a minor shunt - it's that shit that fucks it up for the rest of us!

Insurance is a joke Last year payed £520 for my daily driver, a X reg Golf Gti with 2 years no claims
Renewal price with 3yrs NC was £795

Spent 2 days on the phone and net and eventually got it down to £560.

Worst part is i can insure my cos, all mod declared with protected NC etc for a little over £600 (thats with 9yrs NC)
