Default Saph Exhaust Issue & Question ?

Hoping someone will be able to help !

I have recently had a Stainless Exhaust system fitted to my 1992 K Saph 4x4 and am very happy with it on the whole ! However, the centre box seems so low and with four people in the car, it scrapes like crazy ! Standard suspension, standard wheels etc and have had the fitting checked and everything is as it should be.

It has been suggested to me that I can just remove the centre box and have another piece of exhaust pipe fabricated, thus getting rid of the box and therefore solving this problem ?

Does the system have to have a centre box ? Would this be okay do you think ? Any other ideas ?

Many Thanks,

Dennis.

And it won't affect emissions etc come MOT time ? I assume the purpose of the centre box is just to keep the noise down then ?

a lot is to blame on your suspension imo. standard items are crap and usually old and tiered. mine used to touch the deck on heavy boost without anyone in the back.

only the cat would effect emissions. all the box does is reduce the noise.
plenty of people dont have mid boxes.
i would try putting some firmer springs on, maybe new dampers? more likely the old sierra suspension is wallowing around like a boat and scraping opposed to the box being low.

What system is it ?, some are louder than others to start with and obviously noisier after centre box removed.
As said though if your suspension is original it's going to be very soggy by now.
If mot examiner considers it to noisy he can fail it, strictly speaking he can fail it for being non ford item anyway, but fortunately they're not that draconian!!

Bend your hangers slightly, and fit poly exhaust mounts, it'll help.

I've got a Mongoose system in the loft with less than 300 miles on it, I was never happy with how it fit, hence the reason I took it off....

you thank us for the replys but i dont think you read them mate, unless you can look under the car and see that visually the exhaust is bent and hanging low, it will be the naff suspension. just get some springs

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cosworth-Sierr...6#ht_500wt_947

Bayjoo springs, 2 sets of rears and one set of fronts. free P&P 99p at moment. just get them on it.

I have read the replys thanks but had assumed that new springs would cost a fair bit in comparison to the 'removing the centre box option' and also be more of a job. Doing the centre box thing will also guarantee a solution to my problem whereas It's not guaranteed that new springs will !

well good luck with it
removing centre box's can have its difficulties tho. be careful the exhaust stays straight.
