Default Mini cooper power steering problem>

My girlfriends 52 mini cooper's power steering has just stopped working. She started the car on the drive went to pull off and the power steering just wasnt working, i cant even hear the pump working.

Does anyone know if it could be an electrical fault or if its more likely the pump has let go and will just want replacing, any help much appreciated as i need to get the car sorted A.S.A.P.

Thanks.

Have you checked the obvious, have you got fluid in the tank, or is it on the floor?

Other than the obvious as said above, the PAS pump is a very common failure on the Mini.

In some cases BMW/Mini were doing extraordinary warranty claims so if it IS that, contacting them won't do any harm. Either way, I'm afraid it's not a particularly cheap fix if it does turn out to be the PAS pump

Forgot to say that there are no leaks and fluid is as its normal level, and steerin was perfect before this. At least she wasnt actualy driving when it failed. I may aswell give BMW a ring and see if they offer me anything. Also looking at what ive read on the internet it is a MAJOR problem, could be very dangerous too.

Thanks.

I had one of these fail on a 52 plate cooperS....I traced it to an earth point under a fuse board (I think it was a fuse board, going back a couple or so years now) on the nearside...lifted it up to find the earths nut had come loose. Tightened up and job was a gud-un

very common problem once 6 yrs+.

there is one main supplier of reman' pumps, they advertise on ebay as well, think its £270 exchange plus fitting.

no cheep fix.

it might be ok for a while eg switch it off and will be ok next time, but will come back more and more frequently.

Mini were doing good will replacements to cars with fsh and under 3 or 5 yrs (depending on TLC pack) but they wont help on older cars even with FSH from mini.
