Default More scrappage scheme wastage :(

Was at my local breakers today grabbing a couple of trim parts only to stumble across a very tidy Mk5b Escort RS2000 4x4. What a complete waste. Guy was telling me how clean it was but you just can't put them back on the road under the scheme. He said it was one of the few cars he felt guilty about stripping

Seen cars like that every other day whilst the scheme was running
Most didn't need to be destroyed but had no option
Good thing is it put the used parts down of the joy average car, esp as there was so much of the stuff !
Mind you now its stopped I can see the prices going back up

I can't see how a car in the scrappage scheme would end up at a scrappy? They are all supposed to be crushed straight away aren't they?

No parts can be removed from the cars but the shell must be crushed!

Yeah,if your in with the scrappy they can arrange for you to strip it and just bring back the "cube",which of course could be anything.

There's a cracking mk2 astra gte 16v in a scrappy near me,really clean car too, even the rear arches look oringinal!!!they've had so many cars in under 30-40k miles it's unreal.there was a 16k micra in my mates scrappy, looked like new,but as said not worth 2k.the scrappy pay Ł50+ vat per car,no matter what.

Some of the vw's in there still look like new, there was a nice lupo diesel with really nothing wrong with it!!they had a mk4 vr6 golf in,totally mint.there's a lovely 205gti in dark green down there, loads of clios and 206's,millions of mk4 fiestas.

There was even a nice gas guzzler 540i on a t plate,gloss black,black leather,very pimp daddy!!!

It was like on Top Gear where they showed the ariel picture of that run way, which I suspect was Thurliegh in Bedfordshire, and there were so many usuable vehicles there.

If the government are so hard up they are going to have to close prisons perhaps they should auction off these vehicles, ok, not in the spirit of scrapage, but who gives a shit, I'd rather have some useable cars back on the roads than scallys on the streets.

Lets face it, if they had 1000 cars and sold each one for Ł1000 that would be a cool million to pay for some school milk.

its all balls anyway, the government makes these silly 'eco' schemes but they dont work
the pollution that rs2K would make is so little it would have to cover give or take 350,000 miles to produce the same amount as the PRODUCTION of a toyota aygo. the cars that are being crushed have already been through there production, so the most eco friendly thing to do it keep them on the road, not bin them.
