Default Traders Policy, What should I be paying??

been quoted 3200 quid for my traders motor policy with tradex which sounds ridiculous, i'm 35 yr old, clean licence, with no no claims because i've been on the misses normal policy for years, this is what i have to have, Repossession agent motor cover with 51 grand imdemnity to drive anything (including sports, prestige) up to 7.5t including towed vehicles fully covered, trade plate cover, with the misses whose 41 with full no claims proof, plus another driver of 40yr old with clean licence, thats it, what do you think, is that about right price? its just that my work mate is 26 with no no claims and 6 points with the same cover and his is 3300 quid with tradex
also who else is there that does repo agent traders policies.?

i'd say you have built up no claims aswell mate, I don't mind it just didn't wanna get ripped off, having said that me an the misses have always made sure we where covered with a reputable insurance firm, not just gone for the cheapest quote, there's nothing worse than smashing ya car up an not getting a pay out cus ya had colour coded door handles or something.

i'm thinking about getting a traders policy as i buy and sell a few

will i get it cheaper if i only do it part time? secondly can you protect your no claims with a trade policy? i've got 9 years NCB

i only buy and sell cars less thank 5k in value to be honest (if that matters?)

you should get it well cheap, especially with 9yr ncb, just get 10k indemnity, an name your own cars on it, think tradex do it for part time traders with no premises (meaning from home), road risk only basically, fully comp, but if you prang a car you only get cap price for it (current auction price)

Please please be very careful with these tradex policies

read every little bit of the small print , MOST will only cover you in business hours and for business use , so For example , your in your local town at 9pm with your bird in the car and you have a bump ,,,,quess what , you arnt covered as its out of business hours and you cant claim any sort of business use with your bird in the car ( unless your testing the suspension ,lol )

cover is very very limited on there policies and hardly worth having

there cover is cheap and they will cover just about anyone because when it comes down to it they havent realy covered you for jack shit

Hi there.I'm with buckingham insurance, never had any probs, been paying approx £850-1000 pa for a few years now.had a bump in my transit and a vw transporter was there next day,got £875 for a £50 van, rotten too the core so no probs there HOWEVER it is for cars only,no seperate cover for buildings, tools, pub liability, that's all seperate.the last renewal they went very strict on what I could drive,no scoobys, cossies bentleys etc without their prior permission.covered for modified but tpo unless again cleared by them.must say I've never had a problem about what time of driving but as Paul says be careful.

Lhd 220,I had a part time traders with no premises for many years,up to £10000 per car but be aware that they want to see evidence of trading in the event of an accident so keep records of your buying and selling.they usually ask what your own private car is which I believe then offers you similar cover to a normal insurance policy, albiet you will only recieve trade rates in a claim(ie bottom book).

Good advice there

People forget that with traders policies in the event of a claim they will ask you to prove you are trading and will only give you trade ( as stated bottom book ) for your car , so if you want a traders policy just to drive your 500bhp cossie on the cheap , remember that if the worst happens you will get about £800 pay out for it

mine is quite specialist insurance, it transpires there is only a select few companies that do it because its repossession, tradex and one other that i can't remember at the moment, just waiting for a call back from them, but we have to be covered for all hours, we can just draw up at someones house and the car be there at 2am, if we have keys then drive it away
