Default Audi A3 1.8T......talk to me....

After mucho fannying around over 'a' cheap runabout i've decided to go for a 2001 A3 1.8T. It's done 100k, has some service history and full mot history. I've HPI'd it and its all good, but is there anything else i need to look for with these?

Regular oil changes are a must with these to prevent sludging, check for wear on front suspension arms.

The biggest problem is the water pump but at that mileage I would think it would of had one allready. Other than that bullet proof engines and boxes.

Good news good news. You seem to get a lot of car for the money and 180+ seems obtainable with a re-map. But it's just a runabout

A remap is a must!! as the 150bhp they come with can't pull the skin off a rice pudding. My A4 is tweeked to about 185bhp now and it's still too bloody slow

Seriously though they are pretty bullet proof and I have no regrets with mine at all, 50k miles of... er... well me and it's still alive

as above really, water pumps are known to break up so cambelt and waterpump change are paramount,

also the oil pick up pipe in the sump is known to get blocked if regular oil changes are not done
