Limiter is usually over 160 (actual-not indicated), de limited 180 min.
Don't know much about the earlier models, a bit about the E34 and that's about it.

Even 160 is still less than a genuine 375bhp supra is going to be capable of, so perfectly possible he could beat one for top end.

But thats all acdemic as the kid is blatantly a billy bullshitter anyway and probably meant a 520D

I defense of the Supra, we had a UK Auto when on Redline with a between 360-380bhp, and while the box slowed it down a touch, it was bloody swift at motorway speeds, and would pile on the mph really quickly.

There's no way he would have 'pissed on a GT2', but the sequential twin turbo set up meant that you'd get a big slug of power, and then when you thought it was about to run out of steam, you'd get an even bigger surge, and get to an indicated 170mph a lot quicker than you'd think.

I suspect (if there's any semblance of truth to his story) that he pulled alongside them in a low gear on boost, and then 'went for it' while they floored it in 5th. And in that instance, he'd win.

genuine 375bhp where exactly?

Not many cars will beat an M5 over 100mph. My 400hp skyline certainly wouldnt have!

Tell him 'Next time, press R1, R2, left, right, down, down and you get all the lives and go to the under water level'.

Then id say your skyline never had 400bhp e39 m5s arnt that fast when my saff had 350 i met a few on the ring road were i live and e46 m3s and there isent much difference between the 2 but the saff was faster than the 2!.If the supra had a real 375bhp that came in low down id say it would be faster than the m5 maybe not by much as they are boats lol

Interesting statement as i have both and don't think the saph is faster, but two different cars obviously. I was just saying last night (when sitting in an E46 M3 inceidentally) that i need to put them up against each other and see what it's like. Having said that without even thinking about it the saph would be miles lighter. (i'm referring to 4x4 just for reference)

Very interesting as ive also had both Many saffs actually. I also have 2 RR printouts for my skyline both showing 400-405 BHP.

I can categorrically say that no 350HP saff will beat an m5 over 100mph.

E39 M5 is only 400hp in a big barge. I would imagine a supra (are they 325 as standard??) probably with an exhaust and minor fettles would be equal to it.

E60 different story

IIRC a MKiV Supra Twin Turbo will generally make close to 400bhp @ flywheel with some basic performance bits fitted... so I don't doubt the 375bhp power claim at all.

When I was in Germany a few weeks ago, I raced a pre-facelift E39 M5 in my Impreza from roundabout to roundabout, probably 30mph to around 120mph, and pulled out a wee lead on him, possibly 3-4 car lengths... got the feeling that as the speed increased, he would have began to reel me back in and likely pass me eventually though as the rate I pulled away definitely decreased as speed increased.

My car has 338bhp and a pretty short ratio 6-speed gearbox which is why I guess I nipped away from him at the start.

Cheers,
Grant

you will nip away mate at the start but i would expect to be overtaking you at 100.

Ive had ppp scoobys and they would not keep up beleive me. Yours is 338 though so upto 100 you would be there.

i would see which way you went as you wouldnt get the power down and i would.

If you had 350bhp i would meet you any time.

No replacement for displacement lol.

I suggest m5 driver was an older guy that wasnt driving it properly. ive had 3 stage3 plus saffs and they are just not close mate.

I wish i could prove it to you but i cant, over 100 there is no chance!

and as for my escos an m5 would absoloubtly blow it away!

his car was fucked or you had way more than 350hp.

in my last m5 ive raced an fq340 and been ahead by 100 and by 140 there was 2 car lengths between us!

I didnt start it this time...

I love the way people think i talk without experience... I have owned a fair few cosworths I agree a M.A.D built car may be a different story but a general run of the mill 350hp saff is not going to beat an m5 over 100.

and thats a 350 2wd, a 3504x4 escos or saff has absoloubtly no chance

to be honest its all banter, i still love my fords and will always be a bit blinkered but in the real world the M5 is an awesome all round car.

Im just going on my experience, A lot of people that say stuff on passionford have no experience of other cars than fords.

im not saying thats you ajamesc but there are a load of people that comment without the real world experience.

like danneth and macs as you can see from my sig lol

lol he can use all that extra torque and that 50hp for 7000 revs though.

you can use youre boost for 3000 at most and need to change gear.

I still stand by what i say!

Through 1st and 2nd an E39 M5 is quicker than my 380bhp saff, but once the cossie is into 3rd gear-after the archaic gearchange is out of the way the cossie is simply in a different league...

You do miss the luxury of the BM though, but not the crap steering!
