Best advice, stay away from the typical jaded cliche British holiday and go and see some culture and history of the country. I worked in Egypt for quite a while, you're missing out quite a bit if you're just going for the beach. You want beaches, go to the Costa del Sol

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I stayed in the Royal Savoy, a more private part of the Savoy, it was a decent enough hotel and was in Soho Square which has some decent restaurants in and bars. The main part Nama Bay i think was ok for a few nights to walk around Budda Bar was pretty decent and that was about it,
I only did one scuba and that was ok but the boat trips out to the dive sites take you all day so are a bit of a nightmare if your misses doesnt dive,
Would l go again no their are other places that l would visit way before then it is a bit run down and unfinished and dirty but for what l paid it was fine

I stayed at Baron Palms Resort in Sharm year before last, was very nice, clean, people were friendly, food was decent etc.... We did 2 weeks all inclusive there but we did 2 day trips, one to Cairo and one to Luxor which are well worth the money (about Ł150 per person each one). If your only going for the week i'd suggest Luxor, Cairo is a bit of a shithole!!

As MikeR said I wouldnt necessarily go back as there are other places i'd like to visit, but definitely a good one for a cheapish break. You WILL get the shits though so bewarned!! Dont douse youself up with Immodium though, buy the medication from over there, works far far better!!

Went to egypt last year, was a pretty good break went diving, doom buggying in the desert etc.. was very picky/carefull about what i ate and drank (mainly bottled beer!) and never had any bother with the shits etc.
be prepared to be harrassed constantly outside of the hotel tho!
Would i go back? No, far nicer places to go but glad i went, and enjoyed most of it!

I post on all of these threads about the Red Sea. We always said we'd not go to the same place twice, but we have been to the Red Sea 5 times now. We've been to Dahab, Sharm el Sheikh, Taba, Marsa Alam and Makadi Bay. The key is to pick a fantastic resort, check the reviews on Tripadvisor and only go if you can afford to stay in somewhere that has impeccible reviews. 5-star is a must. If you follow that guideline, you'll have a great time. The weather is absolutely guaranteed, the staff in the hotels are some of the friendliest people I have ever met and the complexes are extremely good value for money.
I spoke to someone the other day that was totally dead-set against going because he was worried about his blonde wife, as he had heard that they love blondes over there. It is true, they do, Beccy is blonde and gets lots of attention out of the resorts, but it's all just humour, I've been offered Camels for her and get nudged/winked at frequently, but truthfully, it's never been a problem. Like many hot countries, it is practically third-world, so out of the hotels, it is barron and the people are poor. But the hotels are a complete contrast and can be very luxurious.
Our last holdiay there, in March this year, was to the Sunrise Royal, Makadi Bay. It wasn't the best we've had, but certainly well up there and highly recommended. Before that we went to the Calimera Habiba in Marsa Alam. Others we have stayed in are the Hyatt Regency Taba Heights, Hyatt Regency Sharm el Sheikh and Hilton Dahab. I would recommend all of them, although, again, check the reviews.
If you want any more specific help, drop me a PM.

Hey mate me and the missus have booked in September to Sharm El Sheikh.
2 weeks All inclusive staying in the Hilton Sharks Bay wokred out about Ł900.00 each.
Word of advice if your looking for all inclusive make sure its at least a 4* if not 5* otherwise you'll be very dissappointed. I wouldnt recommend spending less that Ł700-Ł750 as some of the hotels are awful.
However if you find a hotel just type it into 'Trip advisor' and there will be plenty of reviews on which to base your choice.

One year, one of the waiters took a shine to me and each time he served our table, he would stand with his back to Beccy, to talk to me! One night, he was whistling outside our room to try to get my attention!!
My boy'ish good looks obviously appeal to the young men over there.

10K+ Poster!!
Reef Oasis Beach Resort has been the best place I've stayed in Sharm.
Been there 3 times now and have only been ill once, not seriously ill just a bit sick feeling and erm... loose, lol, lasted for 2 days days then i was right as rain. The wife wasn't bad at all and she ate/drank the same as me.
Don't be put off by the horror stories, people scare monger far too much, but as people have already said, make sure you book a decent quality hotel, as the star ratings are nothing like what you expect at home!

All depends what the person wants out of the holiday, lots of people work hard day to day and just want to relax not tour around.
I still need to go see the pyramids/sphynx/tombs etc but whenever i get to Egypt, diving/snorkeling and lazing around always take priority!

In 5 times over there, neither me or Beccy have had any tummy problems. If you've followed the cardinal rules, decent hotel, only eat food that actually looks decent, drink only bottled water etc then you'll not have any bother. Infact, I'd say you're just as likely to get the shits in Greece or somewhere like that.
