Default Anyone Looking For A Decent Underwater Camera? Panasonic Lumix TS3.

Hi Folks,
My beach camera is the new Panasonic lumix TS3, I bought it primarily as we wanted a camera you can go in pools with, on teh beach with and generally not care about it, throw it in sand etc, then when you get back to teh hotel room just leave it in the sink of water for ten mins to clean it up before downloading all photos from it.

However, whilst it was excellent at that, it also has the advertised ability to survive up to 12m underwater so I thought I would try it out on my recent diving trip to Sharm El Sheikh on the Red Sea.

The following pictures are all taken bare, with no waterproof housing.

And just so that you can see how it handles land photos in good and poor light, here are a few randoms shot with it on land too, in various conditions.

I hope you will agree, that for a camera with no special housings, rated to 12m, its a very impressive camera. I have, to that end, just been and bought Panasonics waterproof housing for it so I can take it deeper. I will get some test footage tomorrow at Capernwray with it whilst on a diving trip.

In summary, you want a pocket camera thats pretty indestructable? look no further than this baby!

It has a very clever depth sensor that adjust teh white balance as you descend so it keeps natural colours longer.

Ref diving, loved it and completed three courses out there amongst my 17 dives.

Those pics look professional!

is it shock resistant as well Stu? I could do with one as my current camera is on its last legs after the desert and being thrown about drunk.

Amazing amazing amazing photos

I used a few different cameras years ago - cheap 35mm waterproof to 10m ones, that did 35m with no dramas, plus more expensive ones that popped in at 20 metres ruining the camera and film.

Your pics look awesome, and show how clear the water is out there. Diving in the Uk you can sometime barely see your feet, but when I went to Mexico divers 35m / 100ft below me were really clear - looked like tiny little ants, but underwater

Your pics have captured perfectly the world beneath the waves, thanks for sharing Stu

Great photos Stu

I've got an underwater case like yours for my old Lumix TZ5, it's been down on plenty of dives and never let me down yet with leaks etc.

I've not tested it to 40m yet but have been close
