The reason is, your area provides water to alot of the country via large water mains a bit like a national grid for water supply.

You know what, we've had so little rain since the 9th July that my grass looks like baron land.

....and we don't have a hosepipe ban.

I reckon we've had 1 or 2 days of rain so far in July. I don't want to move up North!

We have a few days of heavy-ish rain then a few days of brilliant sunny weather. The greenery is just exploding all over the place. I swear the grass is visibly longer by the time I get home from work. There has never ever been a hose pipe ban here or any danger of a lack of water.

Fucking hell!! We've just been sitting out in the garden drinking a cup of tea. I reckon it's at least 25° now, at 9.00.

Jealous??

If they arent going to use their water for fires what exactly are they saving it for?

Or was it cause it was in a poor part of town and the brigade have found the rich areas tip better?

If you want to use your hosepipe but don't want to break the official ban, why not setup your own water collector, filter, barrel and hose system?

I'm sure you can buy them complete from B&Q. My sister's place has one which collects the water off her garage roof. I'm always amazed how much water it collects each week when its raining - easily 15-20 gallons if it has been raining for any time at all.

We only have one water butt at the moment, although a fairly big one, not sure what it holds. About an hours rainfall fills it up and we can do alot of our garden watering with it, plus I usually rinse the cars off with it when I wash them. We plan to string another 2 or 3 water butts together, then we'll be sorted. Good idea IMO.

We don't get much rain down here, but have alot of old quarries which are used to store water, our reserves are 92% atm! my dad collects all his surface and roof water in a huge tank he installed underground in the garden, I'm sure it holds 2,000 gallons! only ran dry once so far but it's working well atm, deffo worth thinking about if u have hose pipe bans all the time. last hose pipe ban was roughly 15 years ago here.
