i've got neon's and angel's in the same tank. they get on fine. got some cat fish danio's and a couple of platy's. i've also got 6 shrimp.

prob your best bet would be the like's of the live bearer's. guppy's sword tail's an platy's. there pretty easy to keep.

angel fish can get quite big, and like to nip, not really adviseable to put them in a tank with little fish

Aye, im a bit OCD when it comes to keeping my tank clean, dont go overboard obviously, as its not healthy, but i keep it as clean as i can.

Got four gouramis, they all get on fine, with each other, and the other fish

Get a proper fish tank [marine tank] but on the tropical side a zebra pleco is a class fish and about the best you can get imo from what i have seen

Just read back what I wrote, and it comes across bad

Yep they are expensive, but some of the fish are very nice, the corals are even better though, wish I could afford a proper mint marine set up, my mate as set his up and hes up to a grand odd with 3 fish in there

My cousin went from tropical to marine. 5ft tank, spent Ł800 on live rock alone, at last count, he had the neck end of Ł3K in it all together. dont get me wrong, its stunning, he has some beautifull fish, but Ł3K, not on your nelly, if i was going to be spending Ł3K, id be looking for a new car, not a fish tank

Aye, and when a Ł3 tropical fish dies, its not the end of the world, when a Ł30 marine fish dies, well, thats a whole different ball game

parrot fish and angels are both cichlids kinda, altho i dont really agree with parrot fish as they were a genetic creation originally, and they are died fish which isnt good!!!! angels need a large tank and can be fairly aggresive but this is quite rare,
it is okay to keep them with neons but you'd be better off with cardinals, they are basically the same fish but they grow to maybe 1 inch inch n half mayb.

DO NOT buy a common plec unless uve got a tank thats a 100gal or more no matter what any1 tells you DO NOT! they can grow to over a foot in length!!!

i keep discus and have kept all the community fish you can keep, if you want any advise im more than happy to help if i can im not an expert but like to think ino my stuff,

the main thing to do is your OWN research never believe what any pet shop tells you cos there jsut wanting to make money,

angels are quite slow growing and would be okay in a smaller tank for a while but not permenant. dont buy parrots or african cichlids, they require different water parameters,

if your a beginer i would say a group of cardinals there a hardy fish and a shoaling fish so a group of 6 or more, and as a centre piece fish maybe gouramis or small angels. as for cats dont buy any synodontis's unless you have a large tank or any pictus' get a few corys there also a shoaling fish, and if you do want a plec then go for a bristle nose plec, but dont pay over inflated prices, they are very very common.

I've decided against the parrot fish we went to the petshop this morning and i asked the guy which fish can be kept with them he told me out of all the fish in his shop he wouldn't put them in with any

So we decided we'll have angels eventually but as were just starting the tank off i'll buy cheap fish too start with till the tank matures a bit so to start with i got some tiger barbs i'll see how they get on and introduce some platty's and the little one wanted a black molly so we bought one of them today

The tank was someone elses but they upgraded it then my old man gave me some water out of his tank plus the filters in the tank were used i also cleaned these out in some of my dad's tank water as i know his tank is healthy and i filled the rest up and put tap safe stuff in it the tank has been running for a couple of days and was up to temprature i was also told that would be fine well i'll just need to see what happens now i guess

If your using used filters, and part water from an already established tank, the cycle wont take as long as a brand new fresh tank. id just put a few cheap fish in, and see how it goes.

my dad's tank is huge and i got 25 litres out of it so i'm hoping that will be fine the fish are only worth about Ł6 all in but it's not the money that worries me it's the fact that my daughter loves them already lol i have explained she may loose some at first but i'd hate to loose them all

cheers i'll pm you if and when i get stuck as no doubt i will lol

Nice one i'm hoping for the same to be honest i couldn't see the little one wanting an empty tank in her room for a month so i asked in the pet shop told him what i was doing with the set up he told me to add tap safe and once it was up to temp in a few days just stick 5 cheap litttle fish in and they should be fine then add some more after a week or so

yeah you shud always use the addative when cleaning/indtroducing new fish, or jsut setting a new tank up, it removes the chlorines and ammiona from the tap water, its also a good idea to test your water straight from the tap, there alot of things can can go wrong, with me keeping discus at 100 quid a fish its a bit diff but the principles are the same, but every1 dus things different, it does annoy me tho wen i go to a shop n hear wrong advice. fish will live in alot of situations, but does this mean that the fish is happy not neceserily, fish are spose to flourish, not just get by surviving.

Guess that's the problem we face mate hence asking on here one persons idea is someone else's no no hence the tiger barb thing today i told the guy i wanted angels

my question was would angel fish be ok with tiger barbs mollys platys and clown loach with maybe a silver shark or a red tailed shark he said yeah they would be fine

Hence i'll be having a look on that forum or send you a quick pm if i'm unsure in future

yeah mate its all a big learning curve its just like anything i suppose silver n red tailed sharks get quite large n u will have to re home them eventually, but if you do get them then use your judgement to decide when there too big, clown loaches need to be kept in a group of 3 or more and get to 14 inches in some cases
