I have a 2002 2.5 ghia x estate. On sunday the car cut out whilst pulling away from a roundabout. I stopped at the side of the road & put the car into park.tried to start engine but just clicked.called out recovery truck but with the car in neutral it would not push backwards but would go forward no problem. Also cannot turn the crank with a spanner. Any ideas.

Scrap it lol.I hate auto boxes cause they are just a pain in the RS.

 

Would the gearbox on the car stop the crank from turning. Also its been to local ford garage who can't find anything on diagnostics but want Ł600 to take out the gearbox for a look.

 

All those who said gearbox were right. Now sitting at ford garage in bits. New box fitted Ł1685.00. I love cars !!!!!

 

Could have been worse, a new auto box for a 2.0 diesel focus came to just over Ł2600 just for the part!

Car now back home. Intend to tow again. Should i consider an additional gearbox cooler to help.
