Default Zetec turbo, few questions..

Wondering if anyone can give me some advice.

Starting to build up new motor over winter for the xr2, aiming for a reliable 250-300bhp.

Trying to do it on a semi budget, but dont wanna skimp on any areas so to speak.

Will probably be using blacktop. Got all bits from frst to do conversion. Few questions. Confused about turbo + injector choice?? Somehow dont think the t2 + blues will be up to the job

And what pistons will be needed/best/easyest to source to lower compression? My mates saying go with the sandwich plate but i dont like the idea of two head gaskets

Will be using the ofac for now to get it up and running, good for 15psi, am i right?

Any thing ive missed and any advice welcomed, cheers

Probably 1000-2000 mate, not in any hurry to build it as its coming off the road for the winter as it needs the bodywork sorting first.

Just starting to plan now.

T34 .63 (I'd want .48) will more than do the job for 250-300, could get that from a stage 3 T3. I'd go with greens...

Depends on boost wanted, std rods said to be good for 280 or thereabouts blacktop anyway, which is a better choice as has under piston spray jets, was a recent feature just about this in Retro Ford, might be worth getting a back issue, looks a mighty good engine, certainly worth cosidering against yb depending on how much power you want evetually.

the silvertop zetec comes with under piston spray jets too, if you get the 1.8 si or xr3i engine, or the 2.0l.

and if not, you can buy them from ford for about Ł4 each, and just remover the blanking caps and fit the spray jets.

start with a 2.0l, rods are good for around 270bhp, and some use calibra turbo pistons but that will require an over bore to 2050cc, some say 2.1l. you can buy a complete 2.0l engine for around Ł100!

use a 2.0l flywheel as they use a 240mm clutch

you can buy adaptor plates to bolt an rs turbo manifold on, and use a T34 as stated. on one of the zetecs i built, i used cossie injectors in the standard fuel rail, but then with a fuel rail from a mk2 astra sri/carlton as this as near as dammit lines up ok.

you will then need a remote FPR and management.

can easily be done for 2k.
