Default Duratec

searching abit on this engine, this was fitted on the ka as 1.3i Duratec OHV 1297 cc I4.

Should this engine fit easily in a mk4 escort with a 1.1 kent engine? do i need to weld new engine mounts, wiring etc. will it give decent mpg?

cheers

its been proven quite a lot of engines can be crow barred into that engine bay and if you dont mind a slightly bigger hike in costs and ballache then consider something like a Puma racing engine or at least something 1600 in size and you will see it transformed.

proper rockets when you have at least a 1600 to play with and they will outhandle a great number of performance cars with ease.

Fair enough mate just offering an option.as it stands if you can't move up to something like a 1600 then I seriously wouldn't bother.just learn to live with it

What kind of fuel return are you getting from the 1.1 at the moment?

35-38 isnt too bad. what kind of roads are you commuting on tho? as that has a huge effect on mpg

the missus has managed 41.4mpg in her 1.8 20v petrol passat, but that was mainly motorway miles

its gonna be a ball ache wiring up the ohc KA engine thats labelled as the duratec tho, as they all have built in PATS i believe

get a 1.4 cvh and build that up with RST manifolds and turbo

From a 1.1 to a 1.3 OHV, really not worth the time or the effort mate. Slow as shit in the ka's and will only be worse in the heavier escort. Continue saving your cash until you can afford something a bit better

I used to get about 30-35mpg from my Efi Xr3i, obviously it's a 1.6 engine though, perhaps have a look at the costs involved for the conversion and then running costs..

As said above, no point in investing into a 1.3 really..

The most straight forward and worth while conversion, IMO, would be a 1.6 cvh on a carb. You could retain your 4 speed gearbox but get a 5 speed in for better fuel consumption. You can do it in less than a day easily, even without much mechanical knowledge

These are reliable engines which will go on forever if looked after properly, a bit corse perhaps, they provide low down torque, but as to your question if there is nothing wrong with the 1.1 I can't see the effot and expense in changing for 200CC extra displacement, in the real world there would be very little difference between the two. The 1.1 has around 53HP whereas the KA is 60HP.

The KA is EFI as well.

yes I want to make her abit better, have some ideas but seeing as its a 5 door, cant do much. maybe rs bumpers, some alloys and a respray in grey, like polaris.

no theres nothing wrong with it actually, just need to sort a squeeking sound which i think is the alternator belt, and change a gasket from the thermostat. its 'only' done 64k kms, so not THAT much.

thankx for the replies peeps

Your engine would actually be a HCS (High Compression Swirl) unit. If you wanted to do something best bet would be change to bike carbs or something along those lines but you really won't gain alot.
