Default plumbed in fire extinguisher help....

I know a few of you have got a plumbed in fire extinguisher system....

Can anyone offer me any install advice....

Any pics of your install would be great...especially where you have mounted the nozzles/jets under the bonnet?

Cheers,

Mark

How many jets you got Mark, if two then point one at your turbo/manifold area and the other at your fuel rail, ones i have seen have been mounted on the bulkhead somewhere.

your not trying to make your own from a house extinguisher are you??
if its a cosher one you should have the instructions!-is it electric triggered?
you wont know if it works because you cannot test it once instaled!!,
will it pass scruteneering?

Cheers guys...

So mounted on the bulkhead then....

Im only having 2 nozzles and both will be under the bonnet... unfortunately i only have 1 nozzle at the moment so have put a wanted ad in the wanted section for another lol!!

Any pics though would be greatly appreciated....also if anyone has put one in a road car rather than a track car where have you mounted the bottle?

I was going to mount it in the boot but none of my cables or hoses will reach so im thinking rear passenger side footwell as i hardly ever have anyone in the back anyway!!

you can buy additional hose / nozzels easy enough

easy enough to add to system you have now with t pieces

just to add my manifold and turbo is under my fuel rail, not looked to see where both are pointed. just assumed they was both at fuel rail

Im on a bit of a budget though mate.

If i locate the bottle in the boot im going to need to buy new hose and new pull cables and i dont reckon they will be too cheap..... especially as a new nozzle is Ł36 on its own

I'd shove it in the boot ideally out of the way.I'd try and stick a jet near your fusebox as 90% of fires are electrical and as the cables run all around your car you'll be replacing interiors, plastics should it go up etc plus of course it's connected to your fuelpump so again it makes sense.even by the battery would be a good start. I think the chap commented on the fact that you can't test it as surely in a car system it would be a CO2 /foam type rather than water as obviously due to oil/fuel issues?

I suppose you could as it's manually operated but of course if it stays on for any particular reason you'll need to refill it immediatley which kind of messes your on a budget idea up a bit.they do say to replace them every x number of years so but I'm sure you'll be fine.being a computer guy you've probably checked already but have you tried typing the serial number of the system into google to see if it brings up the instructions?I would imagine as well that you could use domestic nozzles but the diameter of nozzle jet maybe larger which although giving you better volume you may lose out on pressure as generally any system under pressure tends to find the easiest path, hence the largest nozzle. What car are you putting it in?only asking as a little extra investment in something like the cars in your sig would be well worth it.Really,it's something we should all do,even if it's just a hand held one.

Yeah, best to get it all sorted by a touring car expert!!!that was y I think he said not too go trying it out incase it dosent stop and you CANT refill it.you could however plumb it all in and test out the nozzle jets etc by pumping them from a seperate expendable tank/source something like a domestic fire extinguisher should do the job as the dummy tank....you could nick one from the pub if cash is tight!!!Well worth protecting a lovely 3 door and I miss my s1 as well

Ok its an old thread but came across it looking for the same thing!

So if it helps >

Main thought is this is to hopefully save your car and yourself - scrimping is not an option, and the parts (hose etc) are not that expensive in comparison? (Plastic push fit hose and fittings)

Remember all hoses should be equal in length from bottle to the nozel in case of deployment then you will get an equal delivery - foam, yep messy but smothers the flames and stays in place, gas will extinguish but will not stay present allowing for reignition.
