My mk3 Ghia came with speakers in the shelf from Ford's. It even had a posh plug thing in the support for when the shelf needed to be removed. So it's not impossible some of the S1's had it as well.

My mate Glen,,,,who comes on here, his got a standard S1, one owner from new and all that stuff!!
His parcel shelf did have speakers in it,,,and they look like they are out of the 1930's
So yes totally possible

looks like a gen 1 but it also looks very sun bleached and warped2 all 3 of my series1s had speakers in rear shelves and a multi plug connector from the ark
