Not ever so good on fuel for a diesel I heard, but that's about all I know.

My friend had a Vectra C 2.2 DTI, the 125bhp. That was ok, decent enough for motorway runs and stuff, but not ever so inspiring to drive.

I've got a 1.9cdti vectra its the better one to go for its 150bhp apposed to the 170bhp but the mpg is better. I've had it knocking on for two years and it does everything well. Currently running around 190bhp and 320ft lb of torque and returns 50mpg constantly. I find it great for making quick progress on the motorway as mine looks identical to the undercover police ones on tv lol. The bollocks about them having rubbish handling is not true put it into a corner and it'll just keep gripping.

What other cars have you experienced to quote that then.

Sorry but A big front wheel drive vectra I would expect to handle Pretty poorly.

It's a Vauxhall so I would rather walk than have the missfortune of driving one.

Whilst I have every respect for the cars that people have tuned (as they are often extremely capable), the crap Vauxhall churn out and call a car is a joke.

I've had two clio 172's and currently got a mk1 fiesta running bilstien suspension and fully polybushed up. Trust me if you can drive you can make quick progress in it. Mine is on coilovers now but even as standard it was pretty good. tires make a big difference on them.

My mate has a new focus as a courtesy car now that is a bad handling car.

are you comparing the size of a clio and a fiesta to a V6 vectra to defend the handling ?

Used to work for Vauxhall so driven a fair few Vectra's, I would say they all(Vectras) handle poorly, the 1.9 Cdti 150Bhp jobbie would be my choice if I had to, the V6 diesel isnt as good as you would expect it, as stated its around the 170Bhp mark so not much more and heavier over the front end.

That's quite interesting when the entire motoring world raves about how good the Focus is to drive, and how the Vectra is awful...

LOL @ Focus being a bad handling car, it is THE best handling car and one of the best selling in it's class and has been since it's release. It set the benchmark which lesser cars are starting to follow.

As to the Vectra I never have liked them (No offence to you) not just based on the reviews but it always appears as said to be one of them bland cars.

He asked what i had driven and owned to compare the handling against so i wasn't looking at it through rose tinted glasses as i own one. I don't expect people to like them on here as it seems very anti anything other than ford on here.

Well it is a Ford forum, what do you expect? Its not the fact that people on here are 'anti anything', its just the fact that Vauxhalls are fucking shit.

Have you seen how many people on here drive non-Fords?

This is one of the most un-Ford Ford sites ever known to man. It's more of a car enthusiast site than a Ford enthusiast site.

I think you'll struggle to convince people as the Vectra has always been thought of badly for it's drive, especially compared to the good old Mondeo, which was loads better.

As I say, I know someone who had a Vectra C, and it was ok, but I wouldn't go any further than that. Just a middle of the road sort of car.

as i said its a courtosy car it may just be that its geometry is well out but it wallows and understeers at the first sign of any corner.

I drove the v6 cdti auto sri last week for the first time, and loved it. Thought it was better in every single way than the st tdci.

I thought it looked good (although not as good as a mondeo st, but personal preference) the interior was very grey and plastic (typical vauxhall) but functional and very comfortable, for a big car good visibility.

I thought it didn't handle aswell as a mondeo though, a mondeo, focus, even a transit are all pretty good handling cars but the vectra just didn't seem as good. a bit soft, wallowy even. That said, i don't like how the st tdci drives, they drive so much better on 16" or 17" wheel imho compared to the st 18" wheels.

The engine was fantastic though, i little flat on initial acceleration but i suspect this is cos mine was an auto. But certianly once moving it moved at a very lively pace. Fuel economy on the trip was showing low 30's.

If it was my money i'd go for the vauxhall. But i've no idea of long term relaibility on the vauxhall? & we all know the probs wuth mondeos, injectors, turbos, egr, dmf etc etc!

That's the problem with my 03 Mondeo spending more time and money fixing it than actually getting to drive it and I can get the Vectra for a real good price.

She's a 2005 55 reg SRi v6CDTi 72K what do you think would be a good price?

I had a quick look round last week as after driving one i wanted one, lol, as you do, and they seem to be around the 5k mark. - You wouldn't get a tidy st tdci for that money i know.

realistically you want to be paying less than 5k for it. I bought mine 54plate 1.9cdti 150 two years ago on 75k miles and fsh for £4600. They don't seem much cheaper than that now though.

Sounds a good price as the dual mass fly wheel is about £600 to replace. When you drive it listen for knocking from the back the bushes on the rear control arms go if its not knocking you'll be fine, its not an expensive job if they have gone.

May be worth ttrying to get them to change the cambelt if you can but it doesn't really need doing till about 100k miles

With me being close to the border with the south of ireland i can get diesel for 1.03 a litre so she wouldn't be any harder run than the 2.0 duratec Mondeo.
