Default How do i get a BT line connected quicker than a month ??

I,m moving house next week and when we rang BT today they told us we'd have to wait untill July 26th for them to send out an engineer to connect the line because this is their busy time of the year . That means no internet or sky till then. That cant be right can it?
Anyone got any ideas??

Cheers Gaz

Does it need connecting at the exchange or at your house?

They have the monopoly on everything, even you mobile phones run through the BT network! You wanna see how much they charge the Network for that a year.

From experience I would just o with someone who doesnt require a bt line as every time we have used them they have been shit, given up and gone elsewhere now.

To be honest I'm not too sure although I,m pretty sure last time i viewed the house there were phone points etc so i imagine they mean at the exchange.Does the engineer actually have to "connect" anything or is it more like pressing a couple of keys on a keyboard?

Good point! I assumed every broadband supplier required a BT line as i didn't think there was any other kind. Is there a way of doing it without a line then?

Virgin Media use fibre optics. I have just changed from BT to them.

If using a BT line, ask the neighbours what they REALLY get, it might be as low as 1MB, so may not be worth the wait.

What you want to do is go and plug a phone into the socket and see if you get a dialing tone. if not take the front socket off and there should be two wires connected to i think its 2 and 5 (google it) it thats connected its at the exchange and as i work on cellular equipment havent really worked on one but would have a bash! what you find is most of the time BT realise the phone hasnt been used and turn it off but depends how long the house has been on the market. whatever happens unfortuately they'll get the money out of you some where along the line!

To cut a long story short, bt have got you by the short and curlys!
They will connect it when they feel like it. They monopolise the networks which pretty much puts them in charge! Fuckers i know.
Wireless tap to another network or spend countless hours sat in a 24hr mcdonalds!

LLU means that no not all the lines are BT lines.

they do all however all use BT openreach for the cabling to your house so youve got the same problem nomatter what provider you use.

and its hardly a monopoly, its just that they happen to own all the old legacy coppy lines as they installed them all, nothing to stop a new company doing the same!

Get the post office to connect your line, they wont charge you at all (or at least not as much as BT) then stay with them as their line rental is cheaper than BT anyway. BT tie you into a 12 month contract, the PO dont so you can change providers at anytime

They will always use BT engineers to activate the line in the exchange.

Im very surprised at the timescale BT gave you. Its normally 11 days max!
