cossie failed mot ?? advice
took it up 2day and failed on emissions the guy said probly to much petrol but im unsure as 2day is also its first day on the road again after doin a full engine rebuild top to bottom can any1 help with this or had same problem before maybe timing a split out ???? or maybe burning the exess oil off for lubricating first start or wots ur thouhts guys? thanks

me and my brother rebuilt it and got help from a pro whos done this kind of thing but never to a cozzie im also thinking maybe it was of set on the distributor or somthing for tuning resons as it was sitin at 380bhp so bound to hav a few mods were not sure off and put timing all as standard or cud the scorpion straight thru be doing it failed figers are 5.710 @ 1370 rpm but should be 3.50 or less @ 1200 rpm any thouhts will be tryed thanks for ur number pal maybe here from me 2marra lol...

Take it for a good blast fella,get it nice and warm and you should be on your way then.it's probbo as u said,fresh engine etc.check all the breather system is good too.mate told me t'other day that if u take the airfilter out as it makes it run leaner?

On the 4wd there is a screw on the ecu to fine tune the fueling. I have to turn mine down a fraction each year for the mot. I don't know whether the 2wd is the same.

thats not so bad my old stage 3 stage went of the scale at 11.0 % iirc then it just registered error lol
get it warm and clear it out not to hard though on the new engine then take it back, co can be adjusted on the white screw on the ecu iirc.

Unecessary shit co again syndrome again, did you put in a new CTS, there is NO need for high co, not when it's got a decent map anyway.
Mine read on the last mot 0.97% CO, 137ppm, running greys/T34.48 etc, with nearly 200,000 miles on the engine, bores were so worn it nearly jumped the 1st oversize, and I had piston slap when hot and warmed up all the time.
I would in any even put in a new cts, then recheck settings, it's not a million miles away from a pass, as said no doubt just needs a slight tweak.

many thanks guys for ur sugesgions will perhaps try tweekin a bit and take it for a haff decent rattle round the hood and get it cheked again b4 takin it up again, im in n.i so have to take it to shitty mot centres wer computers and wankers work so thers no lee-way at all and ther tryin to get the old cars off the roads with no respect for old classics

Even with a biggish cams, it should be easy to get it through those basic tests.

Mines never been standard its always been tunned by m.a.d as long as ive owned it and if he says its ok its ok as far as im concerned! But as it gos i have known a few others who had a 350 set up like mine back in the day when i had 350 same bits just done by different people so u could say different chips or just mapped or set up different some had good co others dident like mine! mine was always the fastest!

If it cant pass an easy MOT test, how is it ok ?
All its going to do is use far more fuel than necessary. Fuel isnt cheap, so why waste it running excessively rich ?

As said there is no reason for high emissions when running correct, First I would find out exactly the author/spec of the chip you have, to do this requires opening the ECU and if your lucky and have a good one it will be marked up with the above information. You can then contact that tuner and find out the value of CO for that chip and set accordingly, it may even be marked with it.
I would then start with a small adjustment on the CO potentiometer (The famous screw on the ECU) to see if it changes, to do this you need a exhaust gas analyzer which the MOT tester uses, it's cheaper and easier then shelling out for a CTS which may be perfectly ok!
Most important thing is remember how far you have turned it as it can be very dangerous to play with this as it alters the fuel map as a percentage hence why it is dubbed the global mod.
It is not uncommon for ill informed meddlers to play around with them over the years.
