Mk3 Golf GTi 8v - horrendous car. Used it for a month then gave it to my sister a few years back and it was constantly having electrical problems. Punted it on eBay in the end.
My old mans S Type would be a close 2nd. Terrible car.

Mk2 Mondeo 2.0LX Estate. I bought it as a runaround as I knew I was getting banned in a couple of months. I bought it in a hurry for £600. It had clearly been in a BIG smack, and repaired badly. The doors didn't line up, it didn't go over 50 (even though the speedo said 80) and it smelt like sick.
Traded it in, in the dark, for my wife's 206 and got a grand for it!! Turned out the 206 was shitter than the Mondeo.

53 plate Corsa with the 1.0 3 cylinder engine. Worse engine ever, so rough, total lack of power. Only had it a couple of weeks as I was selling it on, couldn't wait to get it gone. Horrible thing. Used to get over taken by lorries on dual carriageways if there was a hill, dropping a gear or 2 made no difference to the speed.

Well well,it seems that all manufacturers make shitty cars after all,who would have thought there'd be Volkswagens, jags and saabs in there amongst the more likely fiats, rovers and frenchies!!!!

6n2 Polo Gti, a small expensive car to maintain. come with crap gearboxes as standard.
S2 RS turbo. the worst of the rs turbo's, no fun factor compared to the s1 or FRST
MK5 RS2000 how boring and slow.

Great thread!
Mines was a (very) old maxda 323 1.6 auto, wallowed like a drunken pensioner, it had vents in the floor in the back witch attracted water in the way, constantly overheating to the point that the radiator cap eventually got lost and replaced with a rag.....my grandad thought it was alright and swapped it for his PROTON and I thought I scored.
My dad bought it from his brother and when my grandad eventually traded it in, they hpi'd and my uncle had bumped the finance, he hadnt paid for it and the finance guys didnt want it back either.
Horrible thing and just wouldnt die, to my surprise the proton was brilliant, just ugly lol

There is definitely a trend going on here Worst car for me was my first car a 1.0 Metro, it was just awful at everything and looked like a piece of shit. I thrashed it everywhere though and somehow it never blew up.
Worst car ownership experience had to be my 16 valve Integrale. The electrics were shit, the bodywork was shit & it kept on breaking. Great looking car and fun to drive but I lost a fortune on it because the centre diff exploded, the cambelt then jumped destroying the engine, I had it rebuilt then 200 miles into running in the belt snapped bending about 8 valves I rebuilt it myself after that and to my knowledge it's still going today and it's a track car.
The general rule of thumb here is don't buy anything Korean, French or Italian

Worst car?
93 Astra GSi.
Bought it in the dark at midnight after driving from Hertfordshire to North Manchester (Bury/Nelson), got a mate to drive it home and thought it was ok....looked out the window at it when I woke up next day and realised what a shed it was.
It had been converted from a Ecowreck to a Redtop by what I could only assume was a 3year old, everywhere you looked it was bodged up!
I kicked its head in everywhere and it was still only as fast as a pensioner on a bike with no wheels, it knocked and banged its way up the road and was generally shit.
Paid £1800 for it the loom caught fire under the bonnet so I drove it till it would drive no more, eventually it sold on eBay for £400 lol

I have two: a Mk2 Mondeo 2.0 Zetec which I owned for two months before I found the previous owners had put ATF in the manual gearbox causing it and the clutch to go south. Cost me the same as I'd paid for it to put it all right again. Then there was the Mk2 Golf I bought as a cheap runaround; two days after I got it home the starter motor packed up and it turned out the teeth on the ring gear had been worn down too, meaning it was a gearbox-off job. Instead, I scrapped it. The latter actually happened last week, so still smarts a bit when I think about it!
Controversially, some of the best cars I've owned have been French. My old Capri and my current ST24, though, would have to rate as the best two. Both have been dependable, fun, comfortable, looked good and sounded great. All I really want from a car tbh!

Why thankyou sir!!!I knew it would get the old memories going!!as stated above avoid french,Italian and anything Korean,Korean stuff is reliable but zero street cred and fun.get a nice little Ka as your first car IMHO as they're good on fuel, fun to drive and lots of modding potential, little girlies love em too!!!About metros as well, how could they break down so much yet seemed impossible to blow up!!!!I had an UNO turbo (remember them) which was my first quick car and in fairness did beat lots of the quickies back in the day(1995),done most things off the mark and up to a ton like mk2 16valve golfs,xr2/3is etc,but was definatley the most unreliable car I owned!!I did learn a lot from it though, wiring mainly!!!!

Glad to see a few mk3 gti golfs on here, mine was just shitter than shit and I can't believe I swapped it for a stunning Audi coupe 2.3 much to my missus disgust!!the clutch shit itself immediatley, painted by stevie wonder on a beach on a windy day, can't remember the electrics working and never got more than 25mpg!!bought a g reg cav gsi which annihilated it in every way,and did about 35-40 mpg!!!was riduculosly fast, comfy etc,I couldn't even look at the golf after that.thank fuck a chance conversation led to the guy saying he didn't like the Audi and missed the golf!!within 10mins I drove the fifteen miles at 11pm to swap it back with my missus egging me on,phew lucky escape!!!!

opel ascona bought for a fiver with a months tax and test in 2003! nevver ran on all four cylinders wallowed so much the door handles damn near scraped the floor, would not go sideways no matter how hard i tried and to top it off after using it for the 2 weeks i needed to use it for i took it on the beach to have a rally and it killed the crank in 4 minutes so didnt even get the enjoyment of punishing it for the day lol!

S2's to me never had much soul.I've had loads of them but they just didn't match up to my series one but I do prefer them To the fiesta turbo.I don't think much matches up to a 3 door though!!!
