mines rebuilt, new pistons rings, new valve guides etc.
running stage 3 on 25psi t3,
Have a bailey breather breathing both sides of the block,
and return to a plastic bottle.
Driving hooligan hard it will use max to min by about 800/1000miles, but the bottle fills up to at least 1/4 litre.
Cruising it doesnt use any at all.

wow, didnt think they would use that much to be fair, my engine has injectors to spray oil into the combustion chamber and even that only uses 1ltr every 1000miles

not sure not much, depends how driven but usually about 1litre every 2 to 3000 miles,
160 thou miles no work done on engine still original head gasket boosting 28/30 psi for last 4/5 yrs
used every day all conditions, all year round,

im quite impressed, but been well serviced and never use up to the limiter, think that helps
cheers colin

How and when are you checking the oil? What level are you trying to keep it at?
I went through this when I got mine years ago. It will spit out the oil it doesn't want, and then stay at about half full.
You must leave it overnight somewhere flat, then dip in the morning, and don't try and keep it at max level.

I had one that needed a litre of oil after getting to silverstone rsoc day (from Kent) lol
If I used it for work it'd need a litre a week easily.. Bit of a smoker!
Every cossie I had drank oil, used to pi55 me off as they looked 5hite bellowing smoke on the over run.

Towards the end before I pulled the engine out for rebuild, I used to have to top mine up everytime I went out in it!!
don't know how many miles that was as I never paid any attention as to how many miles I did, but I used to use it about 4 or 5 times a week.
Got to the point I was just shoving Ł14 for 5 litres Valvoline stuff in it! Fuck using the expensive gear!! Engine was worn anyway so I could get away with it!!

It can vary enormously, original engines esp 2wd are likely to use more when ragged, there are NO seals as such in the turbo, so oil naturally goes past this point under the right conditions, the breather system is a joke.
My new bore uses 9.1:1 pistons with 1 1/2" clearance, I had piston slap so bad I needed to turn the stereo up, even when fully warm, still ace mpg and emissions though(head was done).
Before it's 200,937 mile rebuild it could "drink" a litre in 30 miles!!, most was left deposited on me mates work units floor though!!
The oil control rings were seriously shagged, comp ring not far behind it.
tabetha

Over run smoke isnt oil, it's fuel
has everyone routed there breathers to return back into the sump? might find a litre in your catch can if not!
it'll vary enormously from car to car, some might have big piston to bore clearance for forged pistons, some will have standard pistons, ring gaps blah blah....
Tabetha....theyre ARE seals in a turbo, Oil seals...metal ones. The only time oil will go past these is when they are worn, or there is crankcase pressure and you have no (or little) backpressure in the exhaust.
I think you mean you have UNDER piston oil spray jets, to cool the pistons. If you had oil firing directly into the combustion chamber, you'd need as much oil as fuel and you would have a very smokey engine! lol

Danny,
No mate that was before the shit happened Never used to burn a drop...you heard how sweet it was!
I've taken over Paul's build that Mark is doing, will be 480/480 when completed, but cars hopefully getting a full respray etc while the engine and front end is out/stripped down
