ive let 2 of my mates drive my car,,,,, one of em put it in limp home mode,,,, i fixed that and last night as i was drinking i got a mate to drive my car,,,,,, take into account i have just fitted a new gearbox 6 weeks ago

hes killed my box,,,, stripped the teeth in 3rd gear !!!

im gonna stop letting people drive my car me thinks pmsl

wanted,,,,, 1 subaru impreza gearbox with teeth not made of plastic........ so much for the later boxes being stronger !!!

Your mate drove it and put it in limp mode? How did he manage that? It's not a choice you can make? As for the gearbox, did you not notice he was driving it like he stole it?

 

Unlucky Ginge. I drove Jim's BMW for 8 laps of the ring and i didn't break it. He did though Seems you want to be more selective of who drives your car mate

 

What year is your impreza mate?may know for a box but it's off a classic shape one so let me know if that's of any use to u.mate has 05 scooby and box is fucked on that too.

 

limp home mode was a piss take,,,,, i told him to rag the car and he kept changing gear at 4krpm..... then i got in to drive,,,,,,,, there was the check engine light on, no speedo working and wouldnt rev past 4500rpm,,,, so i blamed him,,,,, the speed sensor converter thing packed up

as for last night,,,,,,,,,, i didnt see him giving it death as i was in the pub getting drunk at the time,,,,,,, though i DID hear it from the bar,,,,,, over the music which was worrying at the time,,,,,, DOH !!!

im not fussed tbh,,,,, it would have broke with me driving it,,,,,,, perhaps pmsl and to be fair hes offered to buy me a new box,,,,, but its not hes fault and he did help me to fit it 6 weeks ago so all is cool

just need to find a gearbox for a classic impreza OR rebuild one of the 2 fucked ones i now have pmsl

 

oh there is a downside,,,, im going to magaluf in 2 weeks so no cash to spend on the gearbox at the min but i still got 4 other gears at the moment

 

mate its a toy thats there to have fun with,,,,, letting mates rag your car is part of the fun tbh aslong as they dont break it,,,,, DOH !

Xrt-Si has drove my car loads,,,,, hes not broke it yet and ive even loaned it out to mates for a bit too,,,,, they aint broke it either

but ask a mate to drive it home so its safe,,,,,,,, he gives me it back with a gear less that it did before

I lent my brother my car when I was on a ban years ago. I heard all my mate stories of how he was driving it, which he denied and being my brother I believed him. Found out the stories were true and now I don't leave my car keys at home.

it's natural to be slightly pissed but it's not worth loosing friends over i've always lent cars out with the bend it you mend it rule never had any problems yet thouggh

What was the oil level like Ginge? I was chatting to my mate about this earlier and he really really knows his shit with Subaru's and he says that 3rd gear goes because it doesn't get properly coated with oil and he always overfils gearboxes to give 3rd gear the best chance.

He also says it's a lottery with 5 speed boxes, he had one go at little power on low mileage that hadn't been abused but he has been working on a type R that has a 2.5 engine with 380lbft on the standard box and although it's noisy it's hanging on. 6 speed boxes are very strong but they cost a lot of money for what they are, you have to allow about Ł2k for the box, diff etc.

it deffo had oil in it,,,,,, just last week it pissed all its oil out as the sump plug was undone so i put 4 litres of oil back in it,,,,, and that was just last week too pmsl

i fitted a uk spec box for the longer ratios, my STI had the same 5th gear but didnt have 3.9 diff and it was a ty54 box so ment to be stronger,,,,,,, doh !

recon its just a weak point and my mate is a bit of a animal in reality with no mechanical sympathy even though he claims he neever went over 4500 rpm the tosser pmsl

My box has been perfectly fine in m fiesta, and its running more power then yours, i put it down to jap crap! lol

All i did was dumped the clutch half way through 3rd, when it ot to like 9k, i snapped it back up to get the arse out and then it just went bang lol. That was a jokes btw!

And this shit about you hearing it in o no's where you really that cracked out? o neils has music playing inside and you have to be about an inch away from someones head to hear them talk and you thought you could hear your car from about 100m away?? lol piece!
