grief with a specialized? i doubt it. Its probably the spazz's that set it up in the first place to be honest. That makes a bike good or bad.

Im a manager of a bike shop, and we sell specialized. Now go and compare the spec list of your specialized to other brands (inc bits you DONT see like BB, headset, hubs etc) and see how much better they are than rival brands.

We sell Spec, Trek, Giant, Haro etc, and Spec outsell other brands by a mile.

you wont go wrong with a specialised, owned my rockhopper for about 6 years so far and everything is still original, except tyres, and it gets abused!

value for money wise, i would say they are.

get a spec then. good hardtails start from Ł300, and light ones from Ł699. let me know if you want anything and i'll see what price i can do

trek have had 3 price increases in the last year, and are slowly starting to price themselves out of the market

Dedworth road mate

SMIT: Depends on how much you earn mate. Its all about tax bands you see. If you earn LOTS, you can get 48% off the bike, and the money is taken from your account every month. Max voucher spend is Ł1000 though

There is no qualifying terms as far as im aware, or at least we have never come across this problem. your work must be registered with a cycle to work company though. Speak to HR about it.

Spec im not 100% clued up on, needs to have hydraulic disc brakes, good shocks and gears, basically what would be the best spec bike I could get for around Ł800 give or take.

I dont think i'd get a good f/s bike for that even though ideally that's what i'd have, It'll be used for road and hard downhill stuff, so has to have good quality bits on it.

Any suggestions?

cheers

What would you say is the better bike?

SPECIALIZED ROCKHOPPER SL COMP 2010

or

Trek 6300 2010

Trek is 50 quid dearer...howcome the rockhopper hasn't got knobbly tyres?

My mate got a Genesis core 20 - 2010 bike, he reckons it's got some good shimano parts on it as shimano own genesis or something so you get a lot of bike for less cash, but I wasnt impressed, steering felt cumbersome, brakes weren't great..http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Genesis-Core...-MTB_29745.htm

those 2 bikes are almost exactly the same when it comes down to spec tbh. although the trek is supposed to be going up in price soon, so i would buy it now.

we keep both of those in stock, and i like the look of the trek better.

As a complete n00b with bikes, how do they compare?

I mean Ive got a mountain bike (not sure on name - I think its worth about Ł150) but its got 18 gears.

What is the difference between mine and say a Ł1500 bike??? Mines got suspension etc?

Genuinely interested......

Also, can you "test ride" bikes like cars??

Currently has a snapped chain but fook me it does go well
You cant go wrong with a specialized mountain bike imo though!

Edited with pictures:

Bought this badboy on Ebay last year.
Not sure exactly what engine size it is but I reckon it does 40-45mph though!
