Is it idling high all the time? I'd be looking at an air leak after the air flow meter, maybe split pipework/inlet manifold gasket etc.

Sounds like inlet manifold gasket or the manifold itself cracked, metal expanding when it gets hot so the hole appears. You can try some of that easy start stuff, spray it around where you can hear the hissing. If the revs fluctuate then bingo, you've found the leak.

wen i first start it and drive it it pulls ok except it feels like its missing on idle. wen its warm it feels like its lost power. all symptoms point to irmc but checked that and its fine. wen i dip the clutch the rvs will either stick or raise to 3000 rpm

a knackered IRMC wont cause any problems at all, bar over 3K revs the secondaires wont open, hence, you want get that big pick up in power. bar that, the car wont run any different

On the throttle body IIRC. its quite common for the V6 2.5 to get the symptoms the thread starter is having, and a lot of times its the TPS.

A bad TPS can have many effects:

Hesitation on acceleration
Rough idle
Jerkiness
Rough running

Might not be the TPS, may be the old throttle hang thing rearing its ugly head, but im not to clued up on the throttle hang fix, or wether it would cause the problems he is having, but throttle hang is also a common problem on 2.5 V6 Duratecs.
