Default spraying fibreglass 3dr splitter. Advice needed.

Hi all,

I have a new splitter thats needs spraying in satin black.

the splitter is made from fibreglass and has a black gel coat.

Can any one tell me the correct process for spraying this.

Is the following process correct?

-sand slightly
-spray on primer
-spray the satin black paint
-then spray on a laquer clear coat.

Cheers
Ray

If you're using gloss laquer it will not be satin anymore

Yes you are not far away, sand with p600, if its a rough copy, if its a nice copy just use a scotch pad, spray on primer, leave to dry, tickle primer back with p800 makaing sure there are no heavy scratch marks in it and spray with satin black. Do not spray clear coat on because it will put a shine on the black and you would be wasting ur time using a satin black then.

i make fibreglas parts out here in oz i would sit it in the sun for a day after you prime it just to make sure it don't pop the paint, othere than that you are on the money pal. we get lots of poping of paint on fb out here due to heat and small imperfections in the glass bubble up so best just do it slow then you know it will be good when fitted.

you can get a matt laquer but satin black from a tin is designed just to spray it on and leave, its hard enough and wont mark unless really abused, i.e kurbs etc

its best to spray a bit of etching primer on it, it is a very good adhesion promoter
