nice use of 16 million to end his contract rather than spend it on players

As someone who dislikes Liverpool, it's a shame to see him go. I liked the fact he was 'developing' the club from title contenders into a nice solid mid-table team.

I'm gutted he's gone, they might get someone decent in now and may even make it to 6th place next season

Hence why he is still the manager now, he has 4 years left of Ł4M a year contract, which means, he is entitled to Ł16M if liverpool are to pay him off. everyman and his dog knows liverpool barely have Ł16 never mind Ł16M, so there trying to negotiate a severance package.

In an ideal world, another would club would want him, but no one in there rite mind is going to pay Ł16M in compensation to have a manager, who in his last campaign, managed his team to 7th in the league, and out of all major competitions at pretty much the first hurdle.

I have no doubt he will get offered jobs, but when you bare in mind real madrid only paid Ł7M for mourinho in compensation, who has just won the league, cup, and champions league, in his last season with inter milan, there's more chance of liverpool winning the league, cup, and champions league next season, than there is of someone paying Ł16M for benitez.

I think you've completely missed the point here. If a club wants him and Pool want him gone, why would any compo be due? Mourinho was still wanted by Inter hence the fee Real had to pay.

I bet Pool are praying someone comes in for him - no severance payout, Ł16m in the kitty for wages for the next 4 years and the Maxster is gone. Id bung him on eBay and sell to the highest bidder. Job done.

Doesnt work like that unfortunately. we all know rafa likes to make his mouth go, throw his rattle from the pram, and stamp his feet when he doesnt get his way. and the top and bottom of it is no one is going to pay Ł16M compensation for him, and he wont walk away with nothing. so liverpool are trying to negotiate a lesser amount that is suitable for both sides.

Rumour has it, in a series of recent meetings between him and the board, he has made demands of money for players that the club do not have, and this has made his position untenable, as the club and him have different opinions. sounds like typical rafa tbh, finishes seventh in the league, loses champions league revenue, less money from the premier league for finishing seventh instead of the usual forth, the club in huge debt, then he goes into meetings and demands money the club havnt got, which in part, is his fault for the dreadfull season we had last year.

I think even he knows Ł16m isn't going to come from Pool or anywhere else and it doesn't have to. I don't doubt there will be a golden handshake but Benitez can take comfort in the fact he wil still earn that Ł16m over the next 4 seasons no matter where he goes - despite the fact he is a clown.

i just hope we dont get another 'high profile' european manager, ala houllier and benitez. what liverpool need rite now is a manager who is good with limited budgets, and getting the best out of the players he already has. we dont have any money, so we need a solid manager, like martin o'neil or maybe roy hodgson. it was evident last season, that the players were disillusioned, we need a manager who has a good relationship with the players off the feild, not a rafa who by his, gerrards, and torres admission, looks at players as cogs in a machine.

I can't think of any big name managers that would want to go manage there?

No money, change of owners soon, only two good players, fans with expectations that far exceed anything the club can possibly manage now....

Best bet might be some young manager whom the club would still seem like a big fish to??

One thing you have to take into account, is the history of the club. the chance for a manager to make liverpool 'mighty' again still has a big pull. now im not saying a 'big' name, as i said above, thats not what we need, but say someone like martin o'neil or roy hodgson, i think they would definitely consider the job. another option, dalglish is at the club in an ambassadorial role at the minute, they could ask him to take the job on a tempory basis, until new owners are found, then they could start to look for a new manager.

god knows who would want to go to liverpool.

Shit ageing squad.
Only 2 decent players want out, ones going to barca the other to real.
350 million in debt
Club for sale.
Shit stadium.

etc etc.

Why would david moyes want to go there. Or mark hughes for that matter, atleast west ham have got stable directors, avram was right not to wait.

Do we know if next year is Liverpools year again, not seen the experts on here make that decision yet. It could mean they could attract a Top name if its their year again cos who knows where they will finish if it aint their year . As a ManU fan its very worrying.

They'll probably get a big name in due to the clubs reputation/history but I don't think that will be the right option for them.As for attracting martin o neill I can't see all the fuss myself,he's had a load of money at villa and although they've improved under him I don't think he'll do anything fo Liverpool.tbh I have no idea who can help them much ATM as they seem in freefall.what about sammy lee,he done well at Bolton ??
