dont know if this makes a diffrence but there is a strong smell of fuel when running and me exhaust is very black

also where would i get a new fuel pressure regulator ive tryed ebay but cat find matt lewis shop anywhre else please??

a fuel reg will not sort this as you said it has oil coming out of it..... how much oil is in it / on the dip stick

it has nothing now as we drained it to get the engine ready for taking out but when i checked the dipstick last time it was half way i thought about the oil myself maybe there was too much put it or something but was fine when i checked

To start off with I'm not experienced with cossies at all, just a NE'er tryin to see if I can help.
Doesn't sound like the fuel reg will sort the prob (and as it may cost you to put the motor back in, then out, just to try, I doubt it's worth it), but will be a pain in the ass if you keep it once the motor's rebuilt.
Have you called XO motorsport on team valley, gateshead. As far as I know they specialise in japs.
I'd pesonally try Wenny, dude, the guy is a legend, but then again I am sleeper fan.

Just looked at your resto thread mate. Car looks very good, nice tidy engine bay but agree with the filter comments. Persevere with it mate, you will kick yourself if you sell it and it looks a good base car to start your Cossie experience.

im sure xo doesnt exist anymore, theres a place in birtley, think its called, a s performance, they normally specialise subaru. but im sure they do other makes aswel.

XO are up in Cramlington or Ashington or about there now and I wouldnt let them work on my skateboard never mind car they are SHIT

A S performance in birtley specialise in Jap but tbh they have ripped one mate off with a engine rebuild and another melted his engine cos of they way they plumbed in a boost controller on a Evo 6 tommi mak

so thats where x o hav gone now, i wudnt trust them either, they ruined my mates r33 gtt, forgot to put washers on the turbo pipe so it was leakin oil, then tried to charge him for fixing it lol.

ive never actually used a s performance, but i drive past it every day, dont think i will be using them now after reading that post.

yeah ive pmd wenny said a few thiongs to try and said if i was passing he'd take a look but as ive got no tax or test ill not be passing nowhere lol but going to try the things people have suggested cheers also spoke to cleasbys about a rebuild today ringing back tomorow

yeah i know mate its just wasnt sure weather it would be cheaper to fix mine or do the swap i do now tho!!
