Got quite a few RS's tucked away over here, the 6,000 mile S1 came from over here
Ahh the good old Ship 'n' Crown, Rockmounts a very busy pub this time of year, loads of women down there too!

I don't but in the weather we've been having a postie has to be one of the best jobs to have! Strolling about in shorts all morning then finished for 2pm or whatever. That'd do me fine.

I do, have done for near on 10yrs now, one or two of our Line managers aren't great, BUT once you're out delivering as opposite lock as said you're really your own boss.

Hours imo are superb, i'm usually back home for 12-12.15.. not bad really and you can make some nice money by doing overtime, working your day off etc etc..

Some of the guys that do this are on 30grand plus AND still home no later than 3 oclock...not bad really....

I've been a postie for the last 5 years now, and for what it is it's a great job! I've been doing rural deliveries for most of that time but I did do a stint on a bike when I first started and that was ok too.
Hours seem to vary between delivery offices, but we work 06-30 to 14-30 Mon-Fri and 6 til half 12 on a Saturday. BUT, it's still job and knock so if you're done early you go home, as long as you don't take the piss.....

my old man is a postie and has been over 15 years.

he loves it - was on nights in the sorting office but they have just laid a load of peeps off so he has had to switch over to shifts - he dont walk the streets anymore as his leg is fooked so sits in the sorting office all day

I'd love a job as a postie, for the reasons given above - own boss in a way and you get to walk around, i suppose if you can handle all weathers your laughing, the only problem is theirs no jobs up here

Royal mail are pretty good to work for the only issue you'll have is that they only seem to take on part timers now so around 20hours a week.

Im a technician for RM, ive worked for them for two years now and they do look after you I must admit.
I work shifts 6-2/2-10 but this doesn't bother me as I get shift pay with a good take home an a pension plan.
Have worked in some right dumps before and im happy in RM, good clean w/shop warm in the winter and im even geting my LGV licence paid for.

37K???

i though standard pay for a postie was under 20k.

i have heard you can get good money working your bollocks off but 37k!

my brother in law earns nowhere near that sort of money and he does a shed load of overtime.

hes been doing it for 5 years plus. Early start aswell.

This last year I took home just over £17k, and the year before was over £20k. 99% of the time I do 6 days a week for that plus extra bits here and there.

If I was willing to do all the hours I was offered I reckon I could topline about £30k.

Edit - Just found me P60, topline was £20,700 and take home was £17,900. Not quite in the super tax league yet!

thats more like my area. as said if you wanna knock youre pipe out you can earn between 25-28 maybe 30k if you go crazy.

looks like up north is different but down here its not so profitable, also at some point there are going to be massive modernisation procedures which will in turn reduce jobs or hours.

Either way both bad for a postie that wants to earn over 20k.

The job ain't what it was, I must admit. I started literally the week after single daily delivery came in, and that was supposed to be it. But since then there's been loads of local agreements on lapsing cetain deliveries in quiet months and spreading the load etc.
When I started you could do two deliveries and still be home for about 2pm having booked 6 hours overtime! Plus you could do deals with the managers to get them out the shit and book SA rate which is time and three quarters! 30 hours overtime in a week was easy, and you only worked half of it.....
