Default Lake District.....

Driving up to the Lake District this weekend for a short break with the missus. What sort of things are there to do up there, any recommedations? Decent restaurants / bars / places of interest to go? I presume the weather will be rubbish as its bank holiday?!!!!

Brammer - cheers mate, plenty to do there by the looks of it, not looking forward to the long drive though!

Tiff - will do mate, we're staying here in their Tarzan and Jane themed room!: http://www.aphroditeslodge.co.uk/

I took the missus up there for a long weekend a few years ago. I can't remember where we stayed though. We went to Bowness and saw a Beatrix Potter museum. I didn't think it was possible to have more fun than arranging my collection of left over jigsaw pieces but, it's possible.

I fucked my back on the journey up so couldn't do any walking but we did a days off roading which was a good crack. We also went to a little car museum where they had an A Team van and other cars from TV/Film that I can't remember. Fucked if I can remember where it was either.

I'd make an awesome tour guide!

This is the missus stalling it for the umpteenth time with Catweasil, moonlighting as an instructor doing well trying to keep his patience:

It snowed that afternoon:

I'd love to go back but even then [it was March] the roads and everything were SOOO busy, bugger going in this weather! I'll definitely go back one day though and do some walking because the scenery is simply stunning.

I went up there in October. Weather was shocking. Great place but took 9 hours on a Friday from Herts.

Absolutely love living in the lake district, such a great place with some fantastic driving roads to drive on. You could call in for a cuppa, no problem.

I sometimes think the lake district was invented purely to give people somewhere to play with their cars!

Sadly, the caravan/tour bus brigade also think it's there purely for them. Arseholes

Theres quite a lot of rebuilding work going on in the lakes as people are still recovering from the devastating floods last november. 14" of rain in 24hrs. 1/1000 year occurance.

Yeh 5 mins away. Cockermouth was totally devastated by the floods. 8' of water pushing through the town centre. Bridges and foot bridges just swept away by the force of the water.
