young drivers insurance
My son passed his driving test today aged 17 and now looking to get his first car.
looking at group 1 or 2 so possibly a corsa or Ka, but quotes for insurance are ridiculous, cheapest so far is about £2500.
Can anyone recommend any cheap insurance companies, or tips to get the costs down.
How do young uns afford to insure anything but a bog standard group 1 or 2, no wonder there are so many uninsured drivers out there.

Bell.co.uk... Policy in my name, added my parents as named drivers and it came down £650. Also 10month policy where you gain a years no claims after 10 months
Pay it in one go if you can, massive saving if you do.

true mate. I found out insurance for a 1.6 mk3/4 escort cabrio is not far off insurance for a mk5 fiesta 1.2 so i know what i'll be getting

may be worth calling these..Newton Lee ins broker..0800 294 4342...i insured a orion 1.6 ghia as my first car for £900 through them..i was getting quotes of mostly £3k, even had one at £6k from admiral iirc..may be worth a try

Its going to be high werever. like you stat before this is why so many people dnt have insurance. I remeber my first car was a corsa 1.2 l reg an cost £1600 to be named driver on it. my friends little bro has 1.6 focus he pays £1000 on his dads direct line insurance as a named driver. car has to be in his dads name but at the end of the year he gets 1 years no claims even as a named driver.

i sorted my sons out on a 1.0 corsa
it is his name on the logbook insured as his car with his mum named as a driver
i then added his nan which brought it down another 200 quid which made it 1300-00 but he is on a provisional
it goes up 200 quid when he passes and it is a 10 month bonus accelerator policy with admiral
paid it in one go or they added about 400 quid fees the robbing scrotes

Because it's a false economy. The best way to get your policy down it to build up NCB, being named on someone else's policy means that ain't going to happen.

Won't be able to get quote from Quinn as they have gone bust! There are some company's which allow named drivers to earn NCB what they don't tell you is this that the bonus is exclusive to that company though even so it's still the same none the less.

They don't have to, if they suspect that the parents are guilty of insurance fronting they will declare the policy null and void and him and his parents will spend the next many years having to declare that they had a policy cancelled/declared void and both suffer increased premiums as a result. Don't try and buck the insurance company as they are better at screwing you over than you can them.

It's not the same at all. It's just a discount applied by one insurance company that they 'pretend' is a NCB. If it's not transferable between policies it's not an NCB, it's a discount.

speak to the trader on this forums.
i had a 1.6 VTR as my first car, which was just over 1100 to insure, on my own
policy, when i was 19, i had got the Escort RS Turbo with 2 years no clames and
that was just over 1700, now its around 860£ @ 22

Cheapest I found so far is £1230 for a saxo, corsa etc with I Qube with tracker and pass plus, and that is when he is 18 in a couple of weeks about £1700 at 17 years old.
Thanks to everyone for all there advice, very helpful and I'm sure I'll get it down to a decent level eventually.

sorry i have skipped most the thread, but i bought a 205 diesel to learn in and passed my test and moved onto a 1.4 escort mk 5, paying only 1400 quid for my own policy in my name with me as named driver and using my dad as second named driver which made a real difference, once i had 1 years no claims it dropped to 700 quid on a 205 gti

i always told mine, but they just wernt bothered, as the majority of the mods were just cosmetic such as the sterio system,
when i had the 205 gti in fairness they didnt really put the insurance up by much at all once i started playing with the engine etc
