Not the prices you'd expect on your average 15 year old saloon car either though.

can you explain that comment?

i don't understand how cars become cheaper to maintain as they age?

infact the oposite is true. a car becomes MORE expensive to maintain as it ages than it was brand new.

Indeed, the labour on it doesnt get cheaper with time it gets dearer as it involves shearing off rusty bolts etc.

Good choice on Tank Mike, he's one of life's good guys and is a bloody good mechanic too.

Nothing on that invoice was M3 specific so it could have just have easily been a 316, hence my comment about it being not what you'd expect to pay for your average 15 year old saloon car.

The company doing the work is, so they charge a specialist type labour rate as a result.

If it was you would be inclined to trust any old backstreet garage a bit more with it and pay less accordingly

Unlucky jim, if you want I know a mechanic in Sutton who's just setup on his own and has just left workin for a bm main dealer. He looks after my m8s m3 and has quoted him about £80 for doing his valve clearances.(shimming them all)
