You'll need some money in the kitty to track prep it if you want it to perform in a reasonable manner imo and things break lol, budget to put some decent brake pads and and maybe a cheap suspension kit on it and hope it hasn't been fitted with ditchfinder tyres lol.
Keep to a small light car imo that you can strip bare to try and up the pace a little bit, maybe a ratty saxo vtr, although if you could possibly up the budget to 1k you see lots of cars around that mark!

Spares are nice and cheap and the oil systems are pretty good unlike the cvh, the cvh can be a bit underpowered when used on the track

8 of you and you can only scrape together £400, come on....lol.
even £100 each would make a difference in the cars you can go for.
try and get a stonlen recovered or a damaged car off ebay,it won't matter if its a track car.

£400 is the limit boys.. and we cant mod em.... it all come about cos we do the occasional track day in our cars... (i got a 400bhp cossie, 2 of my mates have 400 bhp skylines, there's an e46 m3 and a few other toys) but we thought we'd try it in a car we couldnt care less about lol

The way i read the post was that they have 400 each not between them? That'd make more sense wouldn't it?

Rover 216GTi or 416GTi... either the Single Cam or Twin Cam version, both Honda engines which severely nip on. I had a stripped 216GTi Twin Cam 5dr a few years back with a big ass dog cage in the back and it was a quick car, brilliant fun and I couldn't have given two shites about it either.
But what I would say to you and your pals, ok, while you might not like to spunk lots of wonga on track prepping them properly... at least upgrade the discs and pads... dont wanna be losing brakes and running up someones pride and joy.
Cheers,
Grant
