Focus RS MK2 or Focus ST Code Red?
I'm finally in a position to buy a new motor but which is the question.
I want a Focus RS BUT have been told that a Code Red is a lot more fun and a lot faster.
Just would like peoples thoughts.
Cheers

Get an RS. Better base, better resale.
Why is the Code Red quicker? Tuning package? You will have 300 to begin with in an RS and that can easily be upped.

Top end though is a different story.
However, a RS is a far better base to begin with, and I WANT one. But you cannot ignore the fact that a ST wont be miles and miles off remapped, and they are going for around 11k and a dreamscience/code red/bluefin is Ł400 odd. Yes im comparing a moddified car to a standard one blah blah, and yes a RS with a remap with then trounce most STs, but that package is 30k!
So Ł for bhp the ST is a very good car.

Yeah was just about to say that.
Didnt they do a test in Evo or something with a mapped ST Vs a RS and the ST was just as quick if not quicker.
Id go for an RS though, if your going to buy a Focus, buy the real deal mate.

If you have got the spare cash to buy and run a Focus RS properly... buy it and Mountune it.
If you don't have the spare cash to buy and run a Focus RS properly... buy the ST, map it and enjoy the fact you've got a car which is 90% as quick as an RS for less than 50% of the cash.
Simple really.

Grant

Seems the Mountune ST which is basically just a re mapped ST was faster than the RS through the gears and between most speeds, with the RS only having the legs top end.
Am sure it would be a different story if the RS was re mapped though.

we are talking here about a tuned car vs standard....in order to to both cars justice tune em both and then judge or keep them both standard and judge!..
its like saying should i buy a rs turbo or a new focus rs cos if i spend 10k on the rs turbo ill be just a good and faster.....

As in the Mountune 350RS kit

............
Worth noting in EVO that those were straight line tests between the ST ( mountune ) and the standard RS, and altho in some aspects the ST was quicker, the RS was 2 seconds faster round their track at bedford, so clearly the chassis/package as a whole is far superior to a tuned ST

I would suggest buying the RS, I bought one and chopped my ST in for it, considered the upgrades etc. to the ST but decided to go down the RS route in the end.
End of the day buy what YOU think you'll enjoy the most, thats the most important thing

Well someones cossie is a bag of shite
No offence mate but extra power and LOADS lighter should see the cossie beat you no sweat. However most "330" cossies just arent.
I think my mildly tuned mk1 is faster than a standard mk2 and i know a stage 3 saff would destroy me.
Dont take it the wrong way, i fucking love mk2's!

i find the issue of cost hard to ignore...a tuned st for less then half the price, yes itll not be as quick if the rs is mapped and wont be as quick round the corners but 15k is alot of saving for not a huge loss

I dont believe that for one minute, sorry Mat, RS is the better car by the way as per original question, but im sorry Matt i would realy have to see that to believe that, 330bhp Cossie against a heavy 300hp FWD Focus? I dont think so. I know your gonna say have you driven an RS and no I havent but the facts are there and ive driven a stage 3 cos and there manic.

Yup, my ST is remapped, and is claimed by the tuner to be around 270bhp / 330 lbft. It goes alright, was behind a mk2 RS a while back and yes, in a straight line, it was quicker. But definately not the extra Ł15k quicker!
So yeah, save yourself some cash and get an ST and tinker with it a bit IMO

Go for the ST and save yourself a truckload of cash. The RS may have the edge judging by other peoples replies (before you all pounce, no i've never driven either although i would love to) but on todays roads where can you use that little extra ooomph unless you intend to track it. Until this country gets its roads fixed from potholes i think i'd rather take it a bit easy anyway.

The two cars you're on about are very different, with very different price tags. If you can stretch to the full RS then do it, if you're on a budget you'll be very satisfied with a tweaked ST.
