Default Stuck in a rut.....

right here goes,ive owned my escort gti for about 5 years,my mum got it for me as i was totaly in the red with the bank and i was just workin to pay them off,thing is she passed away last year with parkinsons decease, it has sat outside my house for the last 6 weeks as its got a few faults with it,think the fuse box is on its way out, the first piston isnt firing properly and the top of the piston is black as the ace of spades.i have a spare engine and litteraly a hole spare gti in my garage,the car is solid as rock, i just need some advice of you guys and girls on wot to do,its just its the last thing that she ever got me! cheers for reading

fix it and keep it then,if it means that much to you itd be best or dump it on the drive and sheet it up.

get it fixed, even if you swap the entire loom out it wont take too long. the one not firing probably is probably just a plug or lead.

Sorry about your mum.

How do you know the fusebox is shot? Missfire on one could be down to the coilpack/ht lead/plug thats if you haven't changed them.

cheers for the replys guys, i miss her like mad,she would have just said "broke another car have we!.the mk6 is like the mk5 arent they? fuse box just decides to go awol, i cant say wot it does as it would take me all nite just to rite it,but ile give you an idea! it started draining batterys while driving,first the rev counter would stop workin, then misfire like it was the 4th of july then wouldnt start till it had cooled down.and that was if it had if battery left to turn it over, keeps killing fuel pumps as well... thats the ruck um stuck in

i aint got a drive way,ive got about 5 foot buy 6 foot piece of asphalt then my garage which is full of of spares and house stuff as we have just moved house.

I had this problem on my MK3 XR3i many years ago and it was the solenoid sticking on the starter motor, just had to get something solid and tap it and often it would free it and away you go. It sounds to me like your battery problems could also be alternator related.

Thinking that. Maybe get a multimeter to test the voltage when running? Afterhall the 1st piston is the furthest away and the voltage might not be enough for the spark?

Get it fixed, You wil regret getting rid, especially if you have all the parts to fix her already. Deffo look at the alternator and the coil/leads.
