Default S2 For everyday use?

i have owned a few RS's 2 16i's and 1 S1, which i used as everyday use,
i am now the proud owner of a 98 escort si which is pretty good for running about but the RS bug is too tempting so i have been considering selling the escort and buying a focus leaving no money for the RS or maybe keeping it and buying a S2 or 16i but the question is are these cars really practical for everyday use? my S1 had low mileage and was standard but always seemed to be off the road i need reliability,,
what do you reckon RS every day or not??

I use my S2 every day. Remember the S2 was made to be more of a road car than the S1!!

Had no probs with mine since I got it 2 years ago.

Just look after them and keep them maintained and they will last!

They are ok as everyday cars, but be prepared to dig deep for petrol!

Ill be selling soon though for an es cos!!

My girlie is used every day / night,,,,shes the only car I have, even popping to the shops

I have her regulary checked over,,,,by me,,,and also my own personal mechanic's,,,my brother & my workshop foreman, if I feel theres anything not feeling too right

I service her every prob now days 1000 - 2000 miles,,,,or before,,,,normally ends up before to be honest with you!

I change lil things here and there as and when I feel like it, but its all pipes and filters that normally get done at some stage

I've had her 3 years in March,,,,and to this day,,,,,shes never really broken down on me as such, ok so i've had starting problems and stuff,,,,,but nothing a new starter didn't fix or battery
Only thing I seem to get thru is gearbox's

Shes great on fuel too, obviously I get more out of her on long drives,,,but round town,,,,,pretty kewl as well

Mine was always used everyday for work evenings the lot.

It's only been since we were saving to move out that she was garaged and kept for best. She was a bit thirsty and I've saved nearly Ł200 a month by sharing the bus with the wife

depends how many miles you'll be travelling as well each day (to and from work) I used to use my S2 everyday for work ect (25mile round trip) No probs at all. It helped that that SCC was only a minute away from my work

TBH, there is no reason at all that a S2 cannot be used everyday! its a car at the end of the day, thats what they are meant for

Due to costs and not wanting to put the extra miles on the S2, I now use my second car

No more fun to and from work... used to always see the same scooby on the way to work.. without fail.. if the timing was right, we'd have a blast No more tho.. 1.0litre doesn't quite do it

tbh the s2 aint much more than a mk4 escort with a kit

many many engine components are standard mk4

i used mine for quite some time, never any agro whatsoever apart from niggly things that were not RS related anyway

DO IT!

i use my car everyday, rain snow etc

its fine as an everyday car, can be a bit thirsty on fuel but other than that have very few complaints. takes a little more looking after than a normal (boring) car but its well worth it. just make sure you have a good garage behind ya.

I use mine m8 , with no problems at all , regular servicing is the key , but fuel isn`t the cheapest if its going to work etc

In the first 6 months of owning my S2 i went through 2 gearboxes the bent a valve and finally the bottom end give way, good job im a mechanic! I rebuilt it and so far have had no problems. The CVH engine doesnt really like short journeys, and requires regular servicing.
