focus st170 exhuast rattle
hi all
the rattling exhuast on the st170 is a fairly common problem i gather, usually caused ny the heat sheald around the CAT corroding and coming loose.
my st170 had the same problem and when i searched various sites the best way to cure this was to either remove the sheilds all together or secure them with a stainless steel cable tie.
i tried the cable tie method but still the annoying rattle at just under 2000rpm!
i then investgated further and just after the CAT the exhaust goes back up towards the floor pannel of the car. it was here i noticed a joint in the exhaust which was loose, caused by a bolt missing! i replaced the bolt and now i seemed to have solved the problem!
hope this may help someone with same problem!
cheers

Same happened on my old 170, heatshields and CAT were shot, luckily still had warranty so all got sorted. They run the exhaust too close to the body 100%, does get annoying...

There is a bracket which secures the piece of exhaust prior to the CAT to the bodywork (or some other part). This fractured on my old ST170 which meant I had a buzzing around 1500-2000rpm.
It wasn't that expensive to buy, but a bit of a pain to replace because of tight access.

wonder if this is the same horrible rattle I get on my 2.0 Zetec Focus?
Dosnt do it when the engines cold but does it up to around 2k rpm once warmed up, epsecially when booting it or labouring the engine a bit.

guys does the bracket have a part number?
and I take it the one you have to really go under the car, reach up and find ?
I think mine has sheared , I've placed a washer on one bolt to hold it all together and the rattle has stopped but I'd rather replace the bracket.
cheers in advance.
