LCD or PLASMA (NOW WITH PIC)
I am going out to buy a new t.v. this coming weekend,
I have an upper limit of £800
we watch quite alot of films, would also like it to have freeview or free sat built in.
i will also be using a PS3 on it
would be looking at either 40" or 42"
i quite like LG but unsure on models, or weather to buy plasma or LCD
i really dont know too much about these newer type t.v so any advice would be appreciated.

Paid just under 800 for a 32" Samsung LED a couple of weeks back.
You wouldnt believe the quality in comparison to plasma or LCD.
Suggest you do some research on the LED! Relativley new technology but brilliant in my opinion.

Anything under 42 then get an LCD, Anything over 42 then get a Plasma
LG is abit of Marmite thing, someone please say there good but some say there shit.....
Panasonic is the Daddy when it comes too TV's mind, Sony are great too But ive got a Samsung which is great, my current Series 6 got much better reviews than quite a few Sony's at around the same price!

that sounds just right,
ive heard plasma's can be quite unreliable. is there any truth in this?

Your right LED' s are technically a member of the LCD family, the display on a LED is a liquid crystal display the same as it is on any other LCD but the main difference between the two lies with different backlighting technology which can change the picture quality characteristics dramatically!
Hence why I chose the LED but they can be a bit pricey.

ive looked at leds if you get 1 its gotta be fully backlit and not perimeter run(as these are no better than a standard led)! so therefore are not ultra thin! but i ent seen an led that touched on plasma! you get motion blur on lcd(led) which you dont on plasma. even tho the fully backlit models , like sharp or sony, are getting better towards the contrast ratio and black levels but are still way off plasma like mine with 5,000,000:1 contrast and infinite black

have a search on http://www.avforums.com/ will give you loads of info and different opinions but they will all lead back to the same thing get a pansonic plasma
IF you could stretch your budget a tad further the latest panasonic is out the "g20" which is just way out infront and abit better then the g15 i linked you to but that sits at £999 atm

panasonic p42g10 owner here and for the cash you couldnt beat it.
got mine for just over £600 with 5 yrs warrenty, has freesat built in, not sure if they are still selling them if not then its been replaced by the G15 in that budget.
then again may have been replaced by the G20, but thats well over your budget

No it isnt!!
LED Light Emitting Diode
LCD Liquid Crystal Display
Totally different! LCD is backlit where as LED is not, hence why LED has much better contrast ratio and blacker blacks
Out of Plasma and LCD if your a heavy gamer of use your PC through your TV a lot then go LCD as Plasma suffers form burn in very easily, otherwise go Plasma for faster response times and better contrast ratio, saturation, and vibrance
FYI LED has all the advantages of Plasma over LCD but none of the disadvantages..... hence the heavy price tag!

but does the backlighting change the quality of the picture? ive been installing and following tv's for a long time dude its not time to change over to LED's yet, and with panasonic putting abit more of pioneer's technology into each new model they bring out there way ahead of the game atm

except fully backlit use RGB LEDs in three colours to give better blacks and contrast rations

plasma will be fine mate, some will argue that the LCD is better in a bright room but it would never be a strong enough arguement to get one imo

My mate has had a panasonic 40" plasma for around 5 years now, i understand thats quite a long time but it has fucked up countless times, whereas my 32" lcd LG is still going strong.....touch wood.
Hes the only person i know with a plasma so maybe you cant cross them off because of this one experience and im sure they have come along way nowadays, but if i was buying again i would go LCD.

ok guys ive bought the panasonic TXP42G15B
this t.v is approaching the end of the line with many places no longer listing it, its due to be replaced by the g25 at somepoint in the near future.
one thing im alittle concerned about, SCREENBURN! ive not had a plasma before.
would a channels ident logo in the corner of the screen be burnt in? if so how do you get round this?
