have noticed that even when switched off the sky + box makes an annoying humming noise,like its still on.its the white box i think they give to everyone,have to pull the plug out to shut it up.anything in the menu to make it stop?

We've got the same box in the bedroom and it does my fucking nut in! what with the "update" or whatever it does at about 3am as well

Running the vacuum cleaner over the fins at the top helps a bit but they're dust magnets and will be the same in 5 minutes [even if your missus has cleaning OCDs like mine!].

Twatting it firmly on the top normally works.

it's the fan running to try and keep it cool

you have ot have them well ventliated

mine does it upstairs, might add a small pc fan to the front and back to solve the problem, but the hdd is fucked so might just get another box

You can always hear the hard drive in my HD box running too which is annoying. Try pressing and holding the power button on the remote for 5 seconds, that should switch the box off instead of putting it to standby. It wont record anything you've set though!

i think its that poxy sky anytime feature kicking in, and waking the box HDD and fan up

amstrad boxes are noisiest

i have a few others if anybody needs 1

anything with a hdd makes a noise but a decent box will be a whisper, some boxes i used to fit whistled really badly, i gave those to old people as they couldnt hear it
