Putting a Zetec-E on Carbs using EDIS
Anyone done this? Got a pain of a car in work at the moment that we are turning into a track day toy.
I've only just got on board with it, and loom has been cut at fuse box.
Now it runs EDIS4, no ecu. It is a 1.8 Zetec and runs a set of Dell'ortos.
What will I need to get this up and running? Coilpack is there with connector, I assume I'll need 36-1 crank trigger wheel and sensor..? The engine actually runs a crank position sensor so can this be used along with flywheel?
Struggling to get my head around it really with it not running an ECU - I assume it's an carb'd model as standard... unless it's been ripped out but I can't find the big multi pin plug connector on the loom anyway.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Disaster from day one that car!
The guy who put the engine in bodged it completely to begin with, some of the people who took it apart (when I wasn't there) made it even worse by not making any note of what things did, and then it all sat in a corner of the workshop for six months instead of being sorted.
Was supposed to be my baby that car as I was the Ford person, they had a guy who was willing to pay to race it, but they dragged their heels on the whole thing.
They liked it even less when I gave them the list of parts that needed to be replaced. The suspension is all scrap...

It had a set of Gaz struts when I had a quick look underneath - are they to cock?

find one in the scrap yard you need the edis module follow the wiring which goes to the coilpack and crank position sensor and the passanger inner wing behind the headlight the wiring just unplugs from the main car loom. it has 12v power, earth and i cant remember what the third wire does.
it will run off the zetec coil pack and cps fine
im just helping a mate put bike carbs on a zetec powered mk3 at the minute and ive done a zetec powered mk4 van a few years back
hope this helps

I wouldn't go near a track in that thing to be honest, not til it's been done properly, but they wouldn't let me spend anything on it

Thanks for the offer Steve. This is one hell of a job going by the state of the loom!
Jon - they asked me today if I wanted a donor car to build it back up so I think they're gonna get t done properly! Well, they will if I'm doing it

it does plug straight in and run, but runs like a sack of crap at idle because the timing isnt advanced enough. zetec runs about 14 degrees static where a hcs runs about 6-8. you need the vacuum conection and possibly modify the cps carrier to move the cspe back to get the advance. or buy the proper management from the likes of webcon. the difference is immense!!!!

We had no problem in my mates XR2 on z Zetec and carbs using the EDIS. Pretty sure the one we used came out of a mk5 Escort. Bit of a lash up but it was only a temp fix.

absolutely true, you can run edis without ecu it just pegs the timing at fixed default value which is enough to make it run kind of 'base map' if you like.

you could get megajolt for around hundred quid? wires straight onto an EDIS 4 unit and zetec coil pack. All it needs it CPS signal and Throttle position sensor. If you get ZX9 carbs they have a TPS sensor for the Kawasaki version of EDIS lol. ebay a manifold for 30 quid and a set of carbs for about 50 -80. If its mk3 it'll prob go thru the MOT ok if its pre-cat

people your getting confused. the RED EDIS module is for carb models, no ecu required, timing set for 1.0/1.1/1.3/1.4 fiesta/escorts. (gives crap idle on zetec) the BLACK EDIS module is for injection EECIV cars that will run but timing will be set for LOS. megajolt piggybacks to the black type module.
